Since when does "Free Maintenance" mean $400 30K service
Took my 2013 328i to the dealer to get brakes done (light came on), oil changed and a few dash rattles fixed. I was shocked when the service advisor said the car was due for a brake fluid flush and fuel injector service that was not covered and cost $400.
Was this a sham or is this the norm with "free maintenance"? Jimbo |

The $400 is for the injector cleaning. The dealer service department is just straight out deceiving. I took my car in for regular service and was also offered some of these "non bmw recommended" services. They first wanted to charge me $525 for flushing the power distribution box for the x-drive...yes $525, the advisors reasoning was, well if you plan on keeping it longer, its well worth it. Then he tried selling the fuel injector cleaning, to me, to which he said, cars that get this regularly don't experience injector issues later in life, ( cough bs cough). Then once I felt he was basically insulting my intelligence, I threw a curve ball, saying well, I'l probably end up selling the car in a year and get an m3, to which his best comeback was, "well, if you sell the car and show people it has had regular maintenance, it will definitely increase your resale value, uh huh, you can't bullshit a bullshiter.

All CBS maintenance should be free within the warranty period. Injector cleaning sounds like a scam. I don't see anything in BMW's schedule that calls for injector cleaning. If your car was running fine when you brought it in for service, I doubt that you needed injector cleaning. Go peek at the top tier thread. Top tier gasoline should be more than adequate to keep your injectors clean. I just took my car in for 20K service and that's exactly what I got. Oil change, wipers replaced, engine analyzer. It cost me nothing. The only thing I also wanted was to have the cabin air filter changed. I merely ordered a filter and did that myself.

Dump a large can of Techron in the tank and call it a day. Repeat in about 3500 miles. I would also find a new dealer
