330d Map

Evening all,

At a bit of an impasse with what to do next...am considering an m140, but also don't know whether to stick with the 330d and get it mapped and put some m performance parts on it...any thoughts would be appreciated

Cheers
Virge

Of your bored her rid. I've got a Celtic remap on my f31 and added the full kit. It really shifts now and still hits 40mpg.

A remap on a 330d makes a decent impact

Am from your neck of the woods so if you do get it mapped you'll have to let me know where you took it.

The 30D responds very well to a decent remap. Mine was mapped by DMS and has been on two independent dynos : 345-347bhp and 500-525lbft.

Pleased with the results.

What sort of money are you looking at for the remap?

Yes; pulls very well across the rev range.

Prices vary considerably and DMS is probably the most expensive, but they will remove or rewrite the map for three years if you want the car returned to stock for servicing (I don't bother) or if the dealer overwrites the map (which has happened).

The 330d goes very well after a remap, you should expect roughly 315-330bhp from a decent simple stage 1 remap with no other performance mods at all.

Simon from Emaps did mine .. £350 via OBD port. Mines around 325bhp now, and it goes very well .. it's about as quick as a stock 340i and the latest Audi S5 from rolling in the dry

Sounds like a good option, given that I want more performance but also don't want to drop to low mpg given I do around 200/250 miles a week for work, plus the 330d is a great car!

+1 for Simon

Has done three cars for us over the past 5 years. No problems. One has done 40,000 miles and counting.

Although DMS charge extra for their map. Simon is helpful in that respect too but with a small fee if you go to him. So the initial outlay is not huge which may suit the wallet of some.

Places like Mulgari are worth considering too. They offer insurance on engine failure due to map. Although, I am not sure how this would work in practice ie. proving the cause of failure as the map.

Mines by Celtic Tuning on my 335d, not themselves but they have agents all around the country so got it done local for £330. It was handy done locally as the map got overwritten by an update so I just had to pop back where they re-applied it for free.

I've contacted Simon at e-maps for some pricing thanks to those who mentioned him in this thread.

Yeah I'm sure Simon only charges a small fee if the map gets wiped at the dealers, something like £50 I think if you go to him?

DMS are roughly twice the price of Simon (I think £700ish) and quote 331bhp and 653nm torgue for the 330d vs the 325bhp 660nm I got from Simon.

Simon did a 525d for me a few years ago and the map was ‘ok’ but it started smoking on start up after the map was done. Not sure i would bother with maps again but may have just been the car rather than the map

Remapping the 330d will perk it up a little, but whether that is the best course of action is not clear. What exactly do you want from your car move?

I own a 330d and a 240i. I have an admiration for the all rounder capabilities of the 330d, but it doesn't put a grin on my face like the 240.
