Newbie with issues
Hi folks
New member from the sunny west coast of Scotland. Previously owned a 325i touring and an X5 3.0d and wanted to get back to BMW so... Bought a 2013 420d Xdrive a week or so ago from Glasgow AC and on the drive home I noticed a stutter under medium to hard acceleration. Phoned them back and they agreed to book it in for a look - Long story short they didn't have a clue and have sent it to BMW. I suspected the transfer case but I've just been told on the phone they've replaced the egr valve and it'll be back with me on Monday. I'm a bit apprehensive to be honest - Would a faulty egr valve cause these kind of issues - my economy seemed decent for the day or two I drove it and with TC turned off it seemed to drive a lot better. |

Hi,
My 420d (2016) suffered similar hesitations, more so when you slowed down approaching a roundabout and just as you put your foot down it felt like your car was attached to a rubber band, trying to pull you back! When I booked mine in to the garage the service guy immediately said it sounds like the egr valve and he was right, it was sticking apparently so it was replaced and it is been fine ever since. |

My 420d is rear wheel drive only, however we have owned an X3 (xdrive) for the last 6yrs and touch wood it has never suffered any issues, especially with the drivetrain, so don't worry about all you read.

I wouldn't touch Arnold Clark again with a barge pole. Me and my family have bought cars from them and they were awful, one where an engine completely died too. Absolutely clueless that place.
I hope you manage to get your issues sorted anyway. |
