Formatting USB stick for BMW map update
I keep getting this message on my PC:
The USB device selected has been formatted using the wrong file system. Please format it using a FAT32 file system. (FILES0069) I am using a 64GB USB 3.0 stick, which I have previously used for the 2017-1 map update. When I try and reformat the stick my Windows 10 PC gives me the choice: File System: exFAT / NTFS (I choose exFAT) Allocation Unit Size: quite a few choices here, but 128kb is the default - I have tried 128kB and 32kB and still get the same warning message. Any ideas please? |

The error message is telling you the problem.
You need to format FAT32, not exFAT You will probably need to use Disk Manager to partition the stick into two separate 32GB partitions. You should then be able to format FAT32. I think FAT32 has a 32GB limit |

I've just had exactly the same issue myself today.
Downloaded this - EaseUS Partition Manager FREE - from here https://www.easeus.com/partition-mas...rmat-tool.html and it worked perfectly.

Assuming windows:
Open Command Prompt (type "cmd" in search or run box) At the prompt, type "format /FS:FAT32 X:" Replace the letter X with the drive letter for the external device you wish to format and hit Enter No need for downloads/tools - it's all there in the OS |

You would have thought that they could have given that as an option when I right clicked format, instead of just exFAT / NTFS |

Non-Compatible medium (file system) The selected folder is not suitable for unpacking the map material. Please select another folder to unpack the map material. (UNZIP0077) I am only partitioning part of the disk, the rest is in NTFS. Could be the reason. I am surprised more people are not frustrated by this. Win95 DOS programs were more intelligent than this piece of software. |

Of course, first I had to track down something that'd hold over 32GB. Eventually found a MicroSD card in my camera that I had to backup and format, after finding a SD-to-USB adapter as my new(ish) laptop doesn't have an SD card slot. BMW Download Manager is currently unzipping with about as much speed as a 1982 Lada. And not one of the nice ones. I might actually be able to try it in the car sometime next month! I'm still in the all excited stage, having picked up my shiny new (well, four year old) F31 just two days ago. |

There is a far easier way....
As long as you have one fat partition big enough to hold it use a zip tool to manually extract it. I have used my 500gb external hard drive (powered by usb) with a single 40gb fat partition. Got the same error as the OP. Found the folder the bmw tool downloaded it too - somewhere like - local user/app data/ bmw. Its actually a zip file so manually unpacked it to my drive and the car picked it up fine. |

Same problem with MacOS - I have to retrieve the downloaded .zip file from my temporary items folder and manually unzip that, then copy across to the (correctly formatted!) USB drive.
Hopeless.

I had no issues just allowing windows to format a new 64Gb drive however it wanted.
Used BMW download manager to transfer the files, and boom, all done. Worked straight away as soon as I plugged it into the car. FAT 32 is not compatible as it can't recognize the data >32Gb I believe....

Last edited by Rune; 12-09-2018 at 05:51 AM.. |

Kanske är 128 GB USB-stick problemet? |

Just format the disk in FAT32 and then unzip the contents (from wherever you got them!) to the usb key and you'll be ready to go!! |

Yes. But i think youll find the 64gb drive you have formatted with fat32 has created a drive that is now only 32gb.
Use exFat32 to format above anything above 32gb for the car. You can then manually extract the zip files to it. That’s how it worked for me. |

With the file unzipped, you should hopefully have 4 files on the root of the drive 1x config 3 x NBTEvo_ECE..... etc 2 directories (or folders if you prefer - I am a DOS Dinosaur!) 1 directory named 1 with 8 sub directories 1 directory named FSC with one file in it. Check to see if all unzipped properly. My 2018-4 download was 30.4Gb on the stick HTH Last edited by AlwynMike; 01-08-2019 at 09:48 AM.. Reason: Spellchucker |

When you format USB stick with a MacBook it creates additional files. Someone told me you need to delete those files. I put the USB stick in a windows machine and deleted those files and had no problem installing maps to the car. You could try that.

I just deleted the "hidden files" in order to have exactly the files described by AlwynMike but it's still not working.
I'll try with a SD card in a USB-SD adapter

I just use a little program to format my 64gb USB stick and it works perfectly in the car...
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...jk8SVB9YCZhNYg It's hilarious just how slow the BMW download manager is at putting the files onto a USB 3 drive though
