Small scratch on the rear quarter panel by the drivers door. It’s been there since I bought the car but it still annoys me a bit. Is it worth touching it up or will it just look worse? I don’t feel confident in smart repairs and the other alternative is a whole respray of the panel, which feels excessive for a small scratch. Any recommendations? Or should I just live with it haha

EDIT: It’s not just a clear coat scratch so can’t be wet sanded and polished out. I think it just goes through the colour coat

It very hard to judge the depth of the scratch. If you run your finger nail across it can you feel it?

It may be a case that using clear coat to fill it and the wet and dry lightly 1500 than 2500. The a good cutting compound followed by polishing.

Plenty of video, but many forget about reapplying the clear coat.

Doesn’t look likes it’s through the colour coat to me.

If you wet it, with water, can you still see a big colour difference?

Get a magnifying glass out, wet it, and have a good look.

Drive up to Basingstoke one evening and I'll happily try and polish it out for you. If that doesn't work, take a look at paints4u.com and buy one of their scratch master repair kits for around £15.00. They'll send you everything you need to repair it yourself including base coat, clear, compound and wet & dry. You would be amazed at how easy it is to fix things like this and stone chips yourself to the point that you would never know they were there.

I've got the whole car ceramic coated so might be a bit difficult to polish it out now?

I've used the BMW touch up kit before to cover stone chips and other tiny scratches, layering paint and then wet sanding/polishing it and as you say it comes up really well, it's not the same as a respray but 95% there. I don't mind them on smaller area's but as this is right next to the drivers door it'd drive me nuts if I made it worse. I think I'll just live with it. No worries mate, but you could always polish out the area and then reapply the coating to that area. You don't even need to recover with the same coating. Buy a bottle of g-techniq C1 and reapply just to the polished panel.
