Just out of curiosity what wheels did you go with? I have the 18" square set of 400M wheels also and I want to get a black set but not sure what will go well with the car, I think 19" would look better than powder-coating mine black, but worry the ride quality would suffer with a lower profile tire (assuming I keep the overall outer diameter the same).

From what I've read if you are in a area with potholes and you go from 18" to 19" runflats, you are increasing your chance of damaging tires. (Bubbles out the sidewalk.) As you suspected you are also in for a tougher ride with the shorter sidewalk height.

Consider keeping the 18" wheels with a summer tire. It dramatically increases the handling and floats right over rough roads with ease. I kept my runflats for use as winter tires when temps get below 40 degrees. Best summer tires by far are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

You can also increase handling by changing tire size. I went from square stock setup with 225/45-18 to 245/40-18 for best handling option. I could have chosen 235/45-18 for slight improvement. Or I could have chosen 245/45-18 for best ride (also sidewall fills up wheel well more for a more dropped appearance.

If you want to powdercoat your wheels there is a terrific place in the Philly suburbs called Bonehead Performance. Check out their website. He quoted me about $90 each to change color on my 18" 400M wheels.
Good luck! Hope this helps!
