combox does not boot.

Screen stuck in this state ("bmw" logo):



I've searched these forums, and found people replacing the combox to fix this problem. Looks to me like a software issue that can potentially be solved with some kind of reset. Any ideas?

Try holding down the volume button for 25 seconds to reboot.

I had the same thing happen to me. In my case the HU was dead.

The day after I picked up my 2013 CPO, my head unit got stock in a state of constant reboot (black screen) to BMW logo screen. The dealership replaced the entire iDrive system under warranty.

I've had at least two customers who had this very same issue and either the combox or the head unit was replaced. HU_ENTRY must tend to fail a lot.

Hey Steve, not sure if you are still on here much-- I have the same problem and my car is currently at BMW (most likely having the HU replaced. I do not have the wide screen/nav unit- though my loaner car doesn't either, it seems that the 2018 models have all sorts of awesome features that my standard stereo didn't-- what are the chances that they will replace my unit with something like this? Also, how might I upgrade/update what I have, to get these features?

Zip zero zilch (sorry to be the bearer of bad news here) but you can retrofit NBT if I'm not mistaken.

I already have an NBT non-nav unit in my F22, I am asking if the replacement (My car is at a dealer being serviced) is likely to be an updated version of the unit.

It would be replaced with a unit that has the same istep version. Sucks as I am currently in a 2018 loaner and love the new version myself.

The one thing you would receive are all updates for that particular version but they're minimal enhancements such as compatibility/pairing fixes.

We can replace it for you for a fraction of what the dealer charges or provide you with a full upgrade with the 8.8" screen and nav.

It would be flashed and programmed here on our bench and once you receive it, just swap the deck.

Hi Masterov - did the part replacement solved your issue ? I have the same thing happen to me (BMW logo on and off) - the BMW dealership wants $1600 to replace head unit - I'm thinking I can buy the replacement part you showed (for $770) and install it myself (or have someone else install it) for a fraction of the cost - Any input would be greatly appreciated !

Hi, I have 2014 320i I am facing the same issue for last few weeks, worried to take it to dealer. Not sure whether its a head unit issue or software update issue. Any service shop trusted around SanJose, CA for analysis and cost est, instead of dealership.

i was having the same issue and luckily i purchased the extended warranty, the part is self was $1500 but with the warranty i pay $200 to get it fixed parts and labor. Check with your dealer to see if the warranty is an option for future electronic isssues.

Hey guys,

I really dont know what is happening with my car.
This is the second head unit dead in 4 weeks.

Same stuff, stuck on BMW logo.

I am suspecting it is something with my Bluetooth (phone). - The first unit died just couple of days after I change my mobile. (iPhone SE).
Yesterday I was on the speaker using the phone, all good. Left the car, changed to bring the call back to my mobile. next time I turn the car on, Stuck on BMW logo.
Simple as that.

Unless I am unluckiest guy in the world, something is not right and i have no idea what to do now.
It was really hard to find a head unit compatible with my car last time.

Any idea what could be causing this? Faulty Battery maybe?
Also, both head unit died on the hottest day here in the UK.
Could be a design flaw on the model my car uses? My unit is the simple one, no SAT NAV or ConnectedDrive.



I really appreciate any help.
