2016 340i headliner removal?

So unfortunately I had some pretty bad hail damage to my 2016 340i a couple months ago. I found a certified shop that my dealer recommended to fix it, which aesthetically did a fabulous job with PDR. I couldn't see any of the hundreds (yes - hundreds!) of dents that were removed! I just now realized that when they had the headliner off to access the roof, they did not reattach the microphone for the phone. I pulled off the cover and dug around through the little opening, but could not find it... Any advice on how to detach the headliner above the drivers seat enough to dig for the mic? I figured someone here would have some good input! Thanks in advance...

There should be screws in the sun visor mounts that need to be removed if you really want to drop the whole front down. You may also need to remove the A-pillar. Maybe start by just doing the side where the mic is so you don't take too much apart for no reason.

There isn't really info available on how to do it. I've done it to install the starlight lighting in the roof. To drop the entire thing, you must remove atleast the B-Pilar and the C-Pilar completely. Then you must remove the front visors via the screws, and also any of the interior lighting in the roof. You also must remove the third brake light and then there should just be some clips/Velcro holding it in. I recommend looking up an E90 video as it is extremely similar.

I know this thread is super old, BUT the same thing happened to me. Can’t find my microphone when I dig around with my fingers.

What did you end up doing to find it? I’m probably going to take off the a pillar and hope I can see it from there, just wondering if you have any tips or info from when you did it.

Fortunately I was able to find the mic and reattach the sunroof drain line both through the small opening where the mic cover snaps into the headliner. The opening did get a little mangled, but the mic cover still attached it fine and covered it. I did remove the visor to give things a little more flex in that area, but I got lucky... It did take a couple long drives worth of messing with it, but I eventually got it. Good luck!!

Thank you. I managed to get it out today! Ordered an endoscope on Amazon to help me out. Mine was wrapped around the sunroof drain, did not take any screws out so it was super tight and took a few hours but managed to get it out.

The microphone sounds so much better now.
