Plenty of 335s on the street w/ 8hp45 .. I leave it to you to easily google zf slippage. ZF shafts have also snapped. Theres a reason there are tuners who also make available ZF mods as well. Push it hard enough with tunes and itll go bananas eventually and usually according to Murphy at the worst possible circumstance. Your not exempt from the laws of physics & engineering.

Agree with others here. Huge amounts of torque through the ZF can be done but what we are saying is that longevity and reliable will take a huge hit. How many miles/for how long have you been running 700 nm and over? For 50K mi. Or more? Been to any HPDE events?

Not saying it is unbreakable! Just saying that for me (and three other people that I can think of right now) it has been holding up so far, and that is really all I care about. I am fully aware that my gearbox might explode tomorrow - I accept the risk.
Up to you to decide what information you will make your decision on.

Best guess is +500 pulls at 600-700nm torque levels. Everyday driven miles doesn't really count I'd say. I never did any high speed events - have no interests in those. User darkiedm4 did I think - he is also the guy pushing it to 775nm if I remember correctly.

Datalog my friend and if need be consider upgrades
I dont know how you drive but if I had 500 ftlbs I would be using it all the time and thusly the transmission wouldnt last without upgrades and its expensive to replace a tranny

I suspect part of it is BMW ecus are protecting against general torque spikes but that only goes so far lil stress fractures eventually grow into bigger ones
pot marks on gear teeth eventually grow in size clutch packs begin to wear and slip earlier

When the transmission suddenly sounds like ball bearings in a blender, then you've gone too far.

This is the closest I've found to ball bearings!

They really need to try ball bearings.

Nice vid! It's actually a deeper, more individually defined tone than that in a car.

ZF box definitely won't handle 1,000 hp and associated torque. Not to worry tho because the B58 probably will never see that power figure.

Lol can't wait to look back at this post and laugh.. B58 will easily make that with some big modifications to the engine.. but someone will do it I can guarantee you that.

Really that long? Nope, my car is at 97000km now and the gearbox is just fine

I used to snap axles on my Silvia S14... so hopefully BMW axles are strong😏. Not worried about ZF.

In general the zf transmissions seem very durable.

Not exactly related. But a data point. I have a 2011 335d with a zf6hp28 and folks have pushed those transmissions to 700lbft, for years without failure. Which is well in excess of the 525lbft max torque rating. On modified diesels we’ve hardly ever had anyone report a transmission failure.

I have no doubts that zf builds a good product. It’s not like fords older transmissions where routine maintenance was every 60k miles replace the plugs and the transmission.

Du vil elske at faa din PS2 i!

The only FCA ZF licensed transmission not made by ZF is the 845RE which is used with their V6 applications. All their V8 cars use ZF branded transmissions from Germany. Now, I can't say this for sure with the Demon since it's possible FCA did some modifications on it to suit the higher torque of the supercharged V8, but I figure you're talking about the 845RE. The 845RE is very similar to the 8HP45 which is what the F30 uses (before the B58 equipped cars). It's basically the same transmission, just made in Chrysler transmission manufacturing facilities in America with some small modifications.

Så det på dine bilder, så ikke veldig Dansk ut.
Hvordan endte du opp i Kina?

Any update on this story? I'am looking for a f30 340i (with 8HP50) and I see that stage 1 is already immediately 580Nm. So clearly beyond specification. Will it hold?
