Spark Plugs
I am going to flash to bm3 stg 2 93 ots and want to gap my spark plugs. My m240i only has 5500 miles, so can I gap the stock plugs or should I buy new ones and gap them? If buying new ones, which brand to people prefer?

I run the NGK 2 step colder and gap around .022-.023
Others gap .020-.022, but I found a much smoother idle around .022-.023 I have a Pure turbo + meth so maybe the oem plugs will work for your basic application without needing to run 2 step colder plugs and just down size the gap. https://burgertuning.com/products/ng...der-spark-plug |

Myself and others run stock plugs at stock gaps. I'm running stage 2 91. My car has 27k miles. My idles are smooth and I don't notice any issues. When I do change plugs, I'll probably go NGK at stock gap, maybe slightly smaller.

I wish people would finally understand the NGK 97506 is two steps colder than the stock N54 plugs, not two steps colder than the stock B58 plugs.

Not sure if you're referring to me, but i only say 2 step colder plugs because its easier to validate the NGK 2 step colder plugs from the NGK 1 step colder plugs lol.

97506 and the 94201 internally are the same plugs.
The only the difference is that the 94201 has the divot where the coil spring rests within. The 97506 will eventually wear out the coil springs and could potentially cause misfires. |

Anyone running the B58TU1 plugs? I guess they are slightly different for the new Z4-M40i that makes something like 388HP? I don't think I have any ignition issues right now, car feels good, but what the heck do I know. Intake, DP, Meth, etc...
BMW part number is 12122455258 / NGK SILZKGR8E8S...Gap Plugs to 0.5mm (0.02")? Some people are claiming a slight difference in the skirt and insulation height and they went from stock plugs at stock gap to these gapped to 0.5mm and have smaller timing corrections now. Should I try them / am I leaving anything on the table or no? |

Hey guys a quick update. I decided to go with the NGK 94201 and will most likely get them installed this weekend (hoping my mechanic comes through). Two things I still need to know. I am going stg 2 e30 and should I gap my plugs to .22 or not? Second, what are the proper toque specs? I remember reading anothe thread and people were going above the stock torque recommendation. Is that true?

For B58 the torque spec is 23 fig newtons, aka 17 feet pounds. I just did it yesterday. NO ANTI SEIZE or oil or anything on the threads per the factory docs
From what I've seen it seems the way to go is the NGK if tuned and .22 for stg1 .20 for stg2 ? I did .22 but it was so late i haven't even started the car yet to see if / how she runs over the oem gapped at .26 I believe |

OEM are actually gapped at .29, however BMW says .30 for the B58.
And I wouldn't touch the new ones. They'll be .29 also. Just throw them in, you're not making enough power to justify re-gapping. |

Bump. I'm still running OEM plugs and considering switching to the Stage 1 E30 map. The only issue I see is that my cyl 1 timing is lower than all other cylinders, so I considered regapping my OEM plugs to help. I haven't pulled the cyl 1 plug yet to confirm it's out of wack but any thoughts?
I feel like most people are just swapping plugs by default, but curious if anyone did it to fix an issue in their logs. |
