New 440xi owner, windshield camera question
I recently picked up a '17 440xi GC as my first BMW. I absolutely love the car. The looks, performance and all just brings a huge smile to my face! It's super sporty but very, very useful (I'm a family man and LOVE the hatch!) I've been getting to understand the features and such, but there is one thing that baffles me.
This car has almost no tech packages. (It was either a semi loaded N55 w/o warranty or a stripped B58 w/warranty, and I chose the latter). It has no backup or forward cams, no lane departure, no heads up, no blind spot detection, but it has a camera mounted in the housing around the rear view mirror in the front windshield. What is this camera for? Is it installed but just inactive, or does it serve some other purpose? Is there something I can do to make it work for me? I'm looking to add the rear view cam, 8.8" display and MPPSK or similar system as soon as I can justify the $4k! |

It's for the front collision warning system. Speed limit information also uses the camera.

Looks nice...FYI I wouldn't bother with the MPPSK system. Its a good system if it was $2,000 but for $4,000 is hard to justify. I imagine you got a great deal on your car and its alot for a slightly noisier exhaust and a power boost you can barely notice. my 2 cts
