Yes, I fitted a 3-Coil QI charger under the pad in the centre console, works very well.

Not the best pics. But, you get the idea.
Velcro tape used to secure and it's thickness brought it level. Wire runs underneath as there is a green charging light on the other side. I didn't want to see this when driving.

May be a silly question, but can you leave one of these plugged in without draining the battery. I was thinking of just leaving one plugged into the armrest usb.

No battery drain issues. The 12V cigar lighters go off after a while anyway. If you hard wire a DIY solution it will depend on the circuit you use as to it staying on.

It uses about 10W, so not huge power when charging. Much less when idle.

I just ordered one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Console-S...0AAOSw0rdcBPri

I thought it looked pretty neat / OEM and didn’t want to hack around with splicing wires etc. Will post an update once it arrives from the Far East.

Does this not mean that the tray sits up or is uneven if that makes sense?

Also where did you wire it in to?

Looking at his images it looks like the charging pad is actually on top of the rubber pad. Can't see why you couldn't mount it under the rubber and then space out the gap with plastic / card to keep it all level?

I'd suggest the best place to hardwire that one would be from the rear 12v socket.

If you look at his first image it is under the mat for the centre console

True, but I was looking at the second image which threw me. Let's see what Hugrov comes back with.

Fitted the 3 coil version which sits under the original BMW insert wired to the rear power socket. Snug fit for a iphone XS with no sliding around. Unit has a LED which can still be seen if you look down side of insert but the unit also emits a beep when the phone is placed on the pad. Only problem I have is remembering the phone when i get out of car. Phone charges no problem although through original BMW insert, rubber pad of unit and iphone case.

So, this unit finally arrived from Southern China and I had a slight delay installing this due to an issue with an incorrect cable (I suspect due to our car being an LCI model).

The seller promptly shipped the correct cable and it's now all installed. It took just under 20 minutes to fit, there are three T20 screws to remove and a bit of trim removal from around the centre console. I'm really happy with the installation and it looks OEM, I highly recommend this product and this particular eBay seller.

If you do intend to order it may be worth checking whether your 12v socket has a 2 or 3 pin connector, so that you can let the seller know when you place your order.

Looks really high quality an OEM, a direct replacement for the rubber pad in the centre console:

The rubber pad is removable for cleaning etc, LED light shows power (white) and charging (blue):

End result, the sliding cover still works fine too:

Thanks, completely agree that it's a much better location. I did initially look at trying to retrofit the OEM solution but as you say it's not the best place for a phone. We also have an F15 X5 and a G12 7 within the extended family ad whenever I drive those I often forget to take my phone at the end of a journey!

Not sure if a larger phone would fit properly but it works fine with the iPhone 8 & iPhone X.

Apologies for the delay in replying. The 3-Coil unit sits under the original tray and is powered from the wiring for the 12v outlet for the rear passengers. It can also be run from the wiring from the 12v outlet under the glove box (tap off the wiring on the back of the outlet so it still leaves the socket free for a dash cam etc). The pad you see on top of the original tray is just a thin rubber mat that comes with the device to stop your phone moving around, it just sticks in position. The other charging pad that goes in front of the cup holders is a neat solution but probably won't work for my Galaxy S8 Plus as the phone is too wide.

Thanks, so I guess it would have worked if you didn’t fit the other pad that they provided. The BMW rubber liner is pretty much anti-slip too?

I thunk an iPhone X is pretty much the largest practical to fit on the unit I have. I’ll see if I can get my hands on any larger phones. I would assume that they would still charge it’s just a question of how much they may overhang.

Yeah it would definitely work, I just fitted the extra rubber pad but it's not necessary, the Galaxy S8 Plus sits snuggly in the tray. The front cubby charger is a good solution but I've had my phone there before and it ended up just sliding out under acceleration onto the cup holder cover as it overhangs by a fair bit, it won't sit flat.
