breaklight won't go off - new sensors!
good afternoon,
I have a 2013 bmw 328i msport 4v. recently my brakelight came on and I changed my back brakes because not long ago I had replaced my front ones so the sensor issue couldn't be those only to realize after that the front drivers-side sensor was totally broken. something from the road must have come up and pulled on it or something. I had used akebono ceramic brake pads and sensor. I went to o'reillys auto parts and boght a BrakeBest Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor and had it installed but the brake light will still not go off with the error code that there is an issue with the front sensor that we just replaced. Any ideas what the issue could be? |

yes we did, then the error came right back.
my only thought here is that the type of front brakes we bought only work with the sensor they came with but that's just a guess. The sensor I bought was brand new and fit right in (2 pin) no problem. I'm lost and so was the mechanic. |

Have been having the same problem for a while now.
Replaced pads and sensor months back. After install it could not reset reporting "reset impossible". Brought it to my Indy and they couldn't reset it either, recommended I change the sensor and try again. Ordered an OEM sensor and replaced today. Still stuck on reset impossible. Disconnected battery for 30 minutes and still saying reset impossible. Has anyone encountered this and solved it using a scan tool like this one? https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben...SABEgLkCvD_BwE

I have a Foxwell NT510, which is the same thing, and it does tell you why a code exists other than to say 'reset not possible'. Shop around, the NT510 is usually available for between $129-$159.

Seems like the next logical step to keep me from going to the dealer. I have a bunch of credit to ECS so I'll probably pick one up. Thanks, Bill.

It will pay for itself if all you ever do with it is to register a new battery.

from what i've learned, bmw needs to see the signal drop (disconnected) and a new sensor (or even the old one) reconnected to complete the loop. Try disconnecting the sensor from the terminal box again and connecting again. Dielectric grease may help to ensure a positive connection.

I'm at the end of my rope with this so I just ordered an NT510 today, I'll update the thread if it solves it. Good luck to everyone else.

Received the nt510 Schwaben branded tool from ECS today. From my previous research I saw others with older models finding their CBS reflecting 255% of life remaining, similarly unable to clear the code with their dash/odo. Plugged in the nt510 and, as I suspected, clearing the code alone does not solve the issue. The CBS menu let's you browse edit or reset any of the service intervals. What I was looking for was the life remaining, open the rear brakes and what do you know? 255% life remaining. Reset from that menu and all faults cleared.
I had that light on my dash for months... Money WELL spent.
