PS4 Vs Eagle F1

I am about to ditch the Pirelli Run-flats.

I know there are tons of tyre threads about these tyres and I would probably just go for the Eagle F1 A3s. But....

On my last car (E92 335D with remap) I went for the Goodyears. They were just terrible. I was sliding all over and just could not get traction under hard acceleration, to the point they were lethal in the wet. (I made sure they were worn in).
It was so bad I took them back to the tyre fitter to check if they were fake, but they showed me specific markings to prove they were not.

Anyway I drove on them for another month and decided to take them off and sell them. I got Uniroyal Rain Sport 3s, which were fantastic.

I read all the good reviews on here about the Eagle F1s and it makes me think something must have been up with mine.

So. Do I pay the extra and go for PS4s OR trust what everyone is saying on here and go for the Eagle F1s.

Engine is knocking out 415/730

I've not driven the F1s but I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the MP4S. It's a brilliant tyre, especially with the right geometry.

The only minor negative is that the front end turn-in is not quite as sharp as the MPSS, but in all other areas it's a massive improvement.

There is a new GoodYear Eagle F1 rolling out in various fitments between Feb-Dec 2019 it's the Eagle F1 ASY 5 might be worth looking into.

There must have been something wrong with them, I found AS3's to have easily as much grip as PS4's, but lasted longer.

The AS5's are just about to be released though.

I've had PS2's and Eagle F1 on the Boxster and both had amazing grip. The Michelin's were perhaps a tiny amount better but the F1's lasted almost twice as long.

I'd definitely be buying the Goodyear F1's again, had them on my Civic Type R too, transformed it from the awful Potenza's that were fitted when new.

Just need the get some fitted to the BMW next.

I’ve used both in the past & found that the Goodyear are very good tyres but wear way too quickly, last car I had them on was an E93 330i & they lasted 8000 on the rear. The Michelin’s are a better tyre & last longer so that’s where my money goes. Saying that I’m back on runflats for the next couple of years for warranty reasons.

Do you have any dates on releases of fitments at all? I can only find the Goodyear press release stating between feb-dec 2019. Have seen one other page online (Goodyear USA) saying they will be offered in BMW fitments both * rated and RFT

I currently just switched to PS4 non RF on my car. I couldn't wait to ditch the run flats.
Such a smooth and quite ride. Even cat eyes on the road felt like a big thumps with runflats.

I went with PS4 cause I couldn't get any Goodyears in stock. Absolutely love this tyres. Asymetric 3 what I wanted as I had them before and they are unreal tyre. They lasted for well 35,000miles and then I sold the car
If the goodyears were available to me, I would have went with them. We'll see how michelins fair out now.

Just make sure you dont go with Eagles F1 Arrow shape, as they were not great I found. They just dont last long in comparison to Assymetrics.

Apparently they’re releasing 51 sizes between Feb-May, then another 10 between June-December. I’m hoping they release the SUV sizes before my X3 rears wear out.

Sounds promising, will definitely be going Eagles on the F31 as soon as these are out in the staggered 19" fitments.

What is the story with runflats and warrantys then?

I assume that affects the AUC warranty? I would really love to ditch the Goodyear RFTS on our car :/

If the Uniroyal Rain Sport 3s were great, why not go for them again?

PS4S not PS4 if they come in your size I can't see why you wouldn't fit them, no other tyre offers the same grip in the dry (excluding the semi track stuff) and they are great in the wet.

The PS4 are £20 less per tyre, but the AS3’s are £40 cheaper for rears, although same price as PS4S for the fronts.

I’ve heard different from others so while I’m under AUC warranty I’m not taking any chances.

I’ve had cracked wheels changed under AUC warranty in the past, each to their own.

Michelin PS4S are one of the best tires on the market. Ignoring the price for a moment, highly recommended.

The RFTs may have been partly to blame. The sidewalls, by design, have little compliance which results in shock loads being transmitted to the wheel.

What's the story for those of us running xDrive, I've heard that BMW warranty are pretty insistent that these cars need to have * marked tyres fitted due to tolerances which can cause transfer box issues. The only * marked tyres I've ever seen have been RFT so for us in xDrives we are stuck.

Unless of course this is just hear say and typical forum/internet gloom and doom re. BMW & BMW warranty. Can anyone clarify the above who has changed to a non runflat on xDrive and then had to have warranty work done on transfer box etc what is the real outcome?

Apologies for taking this post off topic a little OP. But this would have bearing on choices for some/many.

Higher risk if there are issues with the drivetrain. Dealers/BMW can make a tyre check before looking at the problem. Some have had expensive bills due to non approved tyres on xDrive models over the years. Not all dealers will tell you to go and fit approved tyres before looking at a problem. Often the problem vanishes anyway, with approved tyres, or if caught early enough.
