2012 328i Rear Brake service
Took my car in for a service and the dealership said that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. Got the warning light the other day. 800KM to go. Pads, rotors etc. Car has 42000km. Is that normal. I am not an aggressive driver. Where can I get this done for less or do I have to do it at the BMW dealership. They quoted me $500 plus tax. I live in Vaughan.

If you want to get it done at dealer ....
Parkview website says $407 (+taxes) for Rear brakes pads & rotors. You may want to double check if sensors and other small brake items are included http://www.parkviewbmw.com/service/v...vices-packages |

I got the red brake warning light 3 months ago when the rear pads had 4mm left. They were still good for a bit but I think the system will warn you just to be on the safe side.
I got the pads and the sensor from Maranello with the Maxbimmer discount for about $200 and got a friend to install it for me. Just buy the OEM pads and sensor from Maranello and get an independent shop to install them for you. It will be much less than $500.

1st BMW ?
Do you, by any chance, have (and use) the nice cruise control feature that when pulled completely, slows the car by 10km/h ? When I bought my 1st BMW, did use it a lot, since I taught it was a nice feature, until my SA told me that this uses the rear brake to slow the car down, which is why they change the rear brakes more often than the front. Next time you use the feature at night, look in your rear view mirror, you'll see the rear brake light lit.

I completely agree with you. The only time you would notice a difference is if you skip oem, and buy aftermarket parts and go to Joe's garage. I feel my last car (Mazda3) is pretty much the same price (if not more) when going to the dealer. |
