Extended Warranty

Hi All,

UK owner here.

I'm coming to the end of the 3 year manufacturer warranty on my 320i GT xdrive and have been inquiring about the extended warranty. Was offered the following from BMW warranty company.

Comprehensive ( pretty much the same as current warranty)
£0 excess = £607 per year
£100 excess = £450 per year
£250 excess = £335 per year

Seems pretty decent with the £250 just to protect against a very large bill if something serious happens.

What do you all reckon?

are there any other warranty companies people have used and actually claimed from?

Has anyone any experience of the main BMW warranty company?

Cheers for your opinions

Jed

Pricey but least risk IMO

I went with the extended warranty through the BMW dealership where I purchased. It was around $3k US for the mechanical warranty and about $1800 for the maintenance package. To me, the maintenance is a no-brainer because they cover everything except for tires(Even brake pads which was extremely surprising to me!). As for the mechanical, with this being my first german, I feel better knowing everything is covered if anything big happens. I will see if anything does end up happening, and if so how much it would have been out of warranty to decide if I want to extend the warranty again at the end. I don't believe there are any payments at the time of service for me, only the upfront charge when I extended the warranty. Only downside for me is no modifications or else I will void my warranty. I know you can do Dinan to stay in warranty but it is the most expensive so that's up to you. Hope this helped!

In the US extended warranties can be had for cheap for Hondas and Toyotas (~$1500 for extending the warranty to 8yr/80K miles typically). For BMW it is much more expensive, $4000 for 7yr/80K miles I think, out which 4yr warranty was already provided with the new car. Not worth the money IMO. If the car did not fall apart in first four years, chances are small it will in next 3 years.

What about the certification process? Does anyone have any experience with that? I was told that for about $2,500, the dealership will examine the car, fix anything under warrantee that they find, then (assuming no surprises) offer a 2-year extension on the original warrantee.

If BMW thought that they'd either give the same warranty that Hyundai does or they'd charge a lot less for the extended warranty. BMW seems very confident that the car won't have major repair problems for 48,000 miles, but they hedge their bets after that. I never bet against the house, so I'll move on to my next car well before that 48,000 miles is up.
