Downpipe Identification !!!HELP!!!
Ok I think I got taken here but its all good, since I believe in karma....
A while ago I purchased what was sold to me as a catless downpipe for an f30 335xi Now I messaged the person in advance if it was for the EWG N55 which I own a 2014 F30 EWG 6spd N55 AWD. Moving forward I make the purchase, not realizing that this downpipe looked like an ER dp but in fact was a knock off. Once again no biggy right there are plenty of brands out there. When purchase was made I decided to buy brand new OEM exhaust clamps top and bottom, just to make installation that much easier. Heres where the prob arose, there is no way in hell the OEM vband clamp that mates the dp to turbo will fit over this and close. Should I be looking into an aftermarket vband clamp. Is this not the right dp for my car should I just buy another one and go with a brand name VRSF prob. Help and guidance would be greatly appreciated Heres the link from my original purchase https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1512077 Last edited by phat8186; 09-19-2018 at 10:34 AM.. |

That looks like the V-band for the DP to exhaust connection not the DP to Turbo. They are different. I’ve used the same clamps several times since every year I need to swap to cat OEM for emissions.

It appears you have the correct clamp based on Real OEM, the other possible clamp is 18307606136, which is for the M235i and other N55s. Maybe that DP is meant for a different car?

The size of your DP looks correct. The dealership most likely gave you the wrong clamp(for the 3.5" version). I too went into Realoem, bought the gasket from the dealership and got a wrong one... It's not the dealers fault, like me you probably provided them with a part number, just get it exchanged if this is the case. If you bought a gasket, check that as well. The gasket should go on the outside of the inner lip, not over the top(it will side right on top of the lip if you got the wrong/smaller one).

The OEM clamps I got from ECStuning I doubt they will take it back at this point. I just want to install this already if it fits my car. I dont want to take my own dp off to then not have the right clamp when the original one breaks to dust on me. |

Why not just reuse the V Band clamp that is on the car? I’ve done it like 5 times with my stock cat and ER downpipe for emissions testing. That downpipe size looks correct for the EWG car. It looks like you have a PWG V Band clamp

18307606136 is the correct P/N for the 4" upper
I bought P/N 11657620508 from BMW and that was the 3.5" so it didn't fit my EWG DP I reused the old one, those are usually in better condition than the lower ones. |

I'd prefer to have a new vband clamp on top. I'd bet that it prob can be reused but I want taken any chances and having a new one on deck wouldn't hurt..
