Hello, I recently ordered a custom airbag cover to match my new carbon fiber wheel! The manufacturer said it's easy to replace the cover. I can't find any forum or video of anyone doing it. If anyone knows how to replace the cover, please share!

Yes of course l, it's just a regular plastic cover wrapped in fabric.

Yes, but will the fabric cover inhibit the airbag from fully opening in milliseconds as it was designed? I'm going to say PROBABLY.

+1. Airbags are at the top of the list of things I wouldn't screw with. Even Takata couldn't get it right, and they make them.

Even if you would mod your airbag and even if you dont care what you do with your life - others do. On other platforms your request would be closed by mods because all tips, hinds and clues to work onto obvious restricted parts of the car are prohibited.

OMFG!! that's the most dangerous athletics modification I've seen. It's right up there with people making their airbags into claymore's by bejewelling the cover.

I'm going to level with you.. don't EVER let anyone else drive your car otherwise you could have a wrongful death lawsuit on your hands. You're taking a serious risk modifying the exploding and inflating device that's inches from the drivers chest & face.

If you want proof of how the airbag inflates, watch this video at 0.25 speed around the 33s mark.

There you can clearly see how the airbag inflates and how it breaks through the cover.. Essentially it splits the cover dead center right at the BMW logo.

The cover that you're wanting to put on the bag doesn't have release stitching in that location. So the glue and/or the cover will 100% effect how the airbag inflates.

now that i know this is a plastic cover with material on top i definitely would not touch it. This cover will act like a projectile and smack you right in the face and cause some serious injury, it may even prohibit the airbag deploying correctly and cause you injury, or finally the force may shatter the plastic into smaller pieces essentially throwing shrapnel into your face and chest causing you injury

Please do not put this on.

If you are going to do this, unplug the airbag. That being said how much are they paying you to do it? I hope in the 2-5 thousand dollar range. Spend money to uglify your steering wheel while disabling a critical safety system? Nah mate.

That’s like paying someone to give you AIDS.

Rock Hudson did.

Lord, I apologize for that one there, and please be with the starving Pygmies down there in New Guinea.

I can only echo what everyone else has said.

DON'T DO IT!

If the airbag goes off, best case it prevents the airbag correctly deploying and it's as effective as having no airbag.

Worst case, it becomes a projectile, like a grenade going off.
Permanent disfiguring injuries or death, even from a low-speed accident that would otherwise have caused no harm.

Just not worth the risk. Read up on the defective Takata airbags. They killed people in low-speed accidents from razor-sharp shrapnel slicing through major blood vessels.
