Remus Exhaust + Different Tips

After spending way too much time looking at youtube clips of exhaust notes I've decided I like the Remus exhaust the most, especially since you can get it for a great deal on x-ph.com ($528!!). BUT that price is before you factor in tips at an additional $600

Now, I'm sure these $600 exhaust tips are great and all, I'd rather save some money and pick up a set of tips elsewhere.

Has anyone measured the OD of the exhaust outlet (or the ID of the tips) so I can know what size tips to get?

You'll be hard pressed to find tips that fit without modification/fabrication/welding.

A lot of exhaust companies have a low price for the muffler and exhausts and high tip prices.

I have a Remus can with the stock tips. It's a 4 series Remus on my 3 series so I had to have little extensions welded on to have the tips stick out far enough.

Get the Remus it sounds awesome.

So are you saying that the stock tips would fit onto the Remus exhaust?

If you used your stock tips, do you still have the valve control? And how did you get them welded?

I feel like them calling them "tips" is a bit of a misnomer. They're more like "outlets" that include piping, clamps, and an exhaust valve on one side. They're not just interchangeable tips like some might think.

I know, but why cant i just cut them off the stock exhaust, and weld them to that REMUS box?

I made the error of ordering the exhaust without the "tips" after a misunderstanding with Mike @ XPH where he thought it included the pipes from the muffler to the valance.
You can likely cut the factory pipes and attach them but you'll want a good welder because I'm not sure you'll get a clamp to squeeze in there.

Google photos of the two mufflers, and you will see right away that the piping from muffler to bumper cutout is completly different. On the Remus the muffler outlets sit much higher, off the ground, compared to the oe muffler outlets, and one side is closer to the bumper. The shop will have to make several non uniform cuts and welds on the piping you have, or use new piping, etc. It's not a simple section of pipe to recreate.

I see, so by Remus' definition, "tips" includes the elbow piping from the muffler all the way to the exhaust outlet. I saw this picture of the tip with the clamp and assumed I could just swap it out:

I guess I'm back to saving up my pennies.

I wanted a Remus but couldn't justify the coin. I found a used Dinan axleback and am happier than ever.

Exactly. I realized this too when I was doing research for an exhaust. Picked this up from Mike above this post

For those of you invested in my ongoing saga, I have an update. I just ordered the VRSF slip-on tips from x-ph. And my plan is to get a flash tune in a year or so when my warranty runs out. I figure I only want a slight increase in exhaust note/burble, so a tune should probably fit the bill. Thanks all for tuning in!
