F30 Timing chain Guide rail

Just bought a 2014 F30 with the N20 engine it has 53,000 miles so far so good but. I took a look inside my engine oil cap and I saw the chain guide and was wondering if I have the new guide or the older one.

I can't tell because it's covered in oil, but I was hoping if someone with experience on this issue can shed some insight.

The dealership I bought the car from gave me an engines/drivetrain unlimited miles warranty as long as I make all required service appointments.

So I feel more comfortable but I'm just curious if I have the new timing chain guide if not I'll let the dealer know and see what they want to do about it.

You have the old one, the new one wasn't used in builds before roughly 3/15.

Timing chain failed at 57,000 miles. It’s currently at BMW waiting to hear if bmw will cover it under the 7 year/ 70,000 miles warranty

They must. Your car is less than 7 years and less than 70,000 miles. There is a bulletin from BMW assuming this warranty.

This is the letter I received from BMW end of 2017.
I assumed all owners with similar engine received the same note.
Hopefully this will make you sleep better.

My production date is 06/2015 so I'm off by 3 months, and for some reason my engine doesn't sound like it has the updated chain. Very rattly and tinny when cold.

All BMW engines are rattly and tinny when cold. The timing chain noise is totally different from that.

Hello OP! Any news? Is BMW honoring the warranty extension for your case?

For my 2014 n20 with 63k miles and no longer covered under the new car 4 year 50k warranty, I didn't receive the letter posted above, but I went to my mechanic when my car stalled out recently. After diagnosing it was the hpfp, he told me to go to the dealership because I was still under drivetrain warranty, so I went and I also mentioned the timing chain "seemed" louder than usual to the SA. I got both covered no questions asked under the 7 year 70k mile drivetrain warranty and 7 year 70k mile timing chain warranty. Hopefully you'll get covered as quickly as I did. Good luck!

By the way, I've checked my timing chain once out of curiosity from reading the cautionary threads about the n20 timing chain. I honestly don't know if it really was louder, but I also haven't driven my car for 2 months due to covid, but the point was SA's are approving the timing chain replacement, at least up to 7 years 70k miles. Might be useful to "hear" noises within the next year or 17k miles... if you know what I mean lol

This warranty applies to all n20?

I'm a second owner. I bought my car at a BMW dealer and no one inform me about the extended warranty. My car date is 12/14.

Someone knows were I can check if my car is included in the warranty extension?

Warranty carries over with the car and not transferred through owners. You can contact BMW directly or call your local dealership to confirm, but I feel BMW NA should be more knowledgeable.
