Probably burned it to use insurance money to buy the newer Red Eye.

Not a bad idea, nor recommend.

side question here, but if the car burnt down due to a manufacturing defect, do I just drop the ashes off at the Service dept and say "can I get a loaner" or has anyone had specific experiences around this? I have always been curious.

LOL no, insurance takes over at this point. Hopefully you all have rental car coverage with your policy because if not, you're paying out of pocket for a rental car until everything settles on the totaled car. And if you don't have the coverage, add it today. It'll cost an extra $6-$12 per month with most insurers for the piece of mind. A rental will run you on average, $25-$35 per day.

I've never had rental car coverage, never needed it 25 years of driving. So I guess I saved between $1800 ($6/day) and $3600 ($12/day). Might be worth it for a "piece" of mind, but definitely not for *peace* of mind.

What the hell are you talking about?! Through your own auto insurance you can get rental car coverage so if you get into an accident and need a rental car while your car is being repaired or if it's stolen and pending the 30 day wait period, they pay for it up to X amount of dollars depending on your policy. I pay $12.01 for 6 months so $2/month. It will cover up to $45/day up to $1500. That's the insurance rental car coverage I'm talking about. If you don't want to pay $2/month for that coverage, that's all on you. You obviously, as you stated, never needed it in the 300 years you've been driving so be it! LMFAO

I actually thought the funniest part was "piece of mind", but I just got a quote from my agent, $45/day rental coverage is $390/year on my policy.

I own and insure 3 cars. If you only insure 1 car, sure it makes sense and it's cheap, but like most insurance it's money down the drain if you don't use it. I've insured 3 cars for ~20 years, so $390 x 20 is $7800.

I suppose I could get rental coverage on just 1 vehicle and assuming $130/year that is only ~$10/month (not $2/month), but how do you determine which vehicle is going to be involved in an accident? All are driven daily by different members in my family (including myself). No point in getting rental coverage unless it is on all 3 vehicles and that does not make financial sense for me.

Most of us fall under money down the drain with all our insurance premiums. It's the biggest scam out there. We should get money back for not using it...

Or at least to not have to fight with them over whether or not they will spend 15% of what we've paid them over the years and just fix the damn car when it needs.....with OEM parts...

Not sure if you guys got into the details about this character. But the fire was after he had a new engine put in. So I got curious as to why he needed a new engine. His previous engine was modified. I didn't get into how much modification went into it. But I do know he had a tune done.

Next, the original engine failed because he snapped a connecting rod which busted a hole on the side of his engine block at cylinder #7. In the process, the free floating piston smashed and broke one of the valves in the cylinder. So he needs a long block now. None of this is being covered under warranty. He thinks the damage was due to him filming himself doing donuts in the snow with the car. Said he was doing video shooting activities for about 2 hours with each run redlining the engine. He also blames that video for putting a crack in one of his wheels. I've never heard of anyone cracking a wheel spinning out their tires in a low traction situation. But that's what he claims and says to everyone don't do donuts unless there is little to no snow on the ground.

And finally, the guy actually set up a Go Fund Me to beg for money to help pay for a the new engine which is now toast...pun intended. He also talks about his justification for putting up the Go Fund Me in one of his videos because of some backlash he got.

Wow, $390/yr is absolutely ridiculous!!! How are they coming up with this figure? I've been with State Farm, All State, Geico, and Hartford, and I've never paid more than $15 for 6 months coverage. Right now I'm $24/yr and I'm glad I had it when my last car was stolen! My insurance required a 30 day wait period to see if the car would be recovered. If I didn't have that coverage, I would've paid 30x$45 = $1350 just for a rental car. My car was recovered after 3 weeks but was deemed a total loss after back and forth for 2 weeks with the adjuster and me bringing in a secondary appraiser. Anyway, I ended up exhausting the $1500 so I'm glad I had that coverage for $2/month. It was $24/yr well spent.

I made it about 15 seconds into the video and bailed. He's an idiot and that video is going to cost him more than he can imagine.
