H&Rs with OEM dampers caused a bouncy, bumpy ride with the front end crashing on abrupt dips and bumps. It was unpleasant and felt "cheap." With the Bilstein B8s, is now as it should be. I consider the ride a significant improvement over stock xDrive suspension. It is firm and composed over smooth road, bumps, and even the frost-heaved pavement we have here where I live. It stays flat in the corners including some spirited play in roundabouts at late night, where I pushed her hard enough in sport mode that the nanny features were kicking in. Overall it seems to be riding like a daily driver sport coupe ought to. I'm very pleased thus far - I feel like I'm back to driving a high quality new German car, with firm commanding ride, excellent handling, and much composure. Mind you, I haven't hit any (more) terrible potholes or such (yet), so the verdict is still out on how it deals with adverse conditions. Bottom line - I'm very pleased. I was concerned that if this "experiment" failed, then I would have to pay to revert back to full stock xDrive suspension. I will not be doing that. BTW, the "stance" is excellent too.
This is a HUGE help, given I also drive a '14 435x. I am running short on patience with Dinan to get an F32x into their shop for spring development and starting to consider other options to improve handling and address the monster truck xDrive wheel gap. Would love to see more pics of both front and rear wheel gap if/when convenient for you. With your car, being black, it's hard to assess that aspect in the pic above. Your car looks amazing BTW!

Thanks for your response. Here are a couple different angles - hope these shots help to see the wheel gap a little better. They're all I've got at the moment.

You reuse the stock bumpstop and dust cover on the bilstein sports?
From what I know, the b8's does not come with the blue dust boot as shown from pics. Was told to reuse all oem parts.

Was that the case?

Here's a little gap before and after. Base line F30 without any added package and the after is with the Sports + Bilsteins. 5mm spacers in rear and I'm thinking the front needs them too. Hard to see here but after the alignment I'm a smidge in the body.

And yes the front gap before shot makes me cringe severely.

Still rides well or has your opinion change? Does it get better once its broken in or there is no such thing as braking in shocks/struts?

Order a set of B8's. Should get it this week.

I have a question installing the bilstein b8 with h&r sport. Was told by my garage that the front bumpstop cannot be used due to the big shaft size of the B8's but was able to keep the dust boot. So no bumpstop for the front.

For the rears, did you just reuse the oem bumpstop and dustboot? Do you need to chop the bumpstop?

I don't recall if I used the OEM bump stop or not.

I answered in the other thread you posted in. Front bilsteins have internal bumpstops so you don't need the oem ones. Use rear oem bumpstops as is w/o cutting

It has felt great to me since I got them and although I'm getting used to it, it's still clear what a difference the handling is from before.

Update - I smashed the fuck out of a nasty LA pothole as I changed lanes and shattered my right strut mount. Everything else is (luckily) completely fine. I expected the suspension parts to get seriously damaged but all is good there.

On Santa Monica Blvd (around Highland)

It was dark out and I got frustrated with someone crawling at like 15mph so I went around them at maybe 45? Karma... I should've been patient.

Everyone at the shop was surprised the struts/shocks/springs were fine. I didn't even get wheel damage. However they suspect when the suspension was installed, the bolts were torqued on the lift not accounting for when the car is on the ground/gravity. My control arm bushings are stripped (more so on the left side). I figure now would be the time to upgrade the control arms + bushings completely but I don't know.

hey guys, new to the forum... i just installed a set of H&R sport Springs on my 2016 328i x drive... i knew the car would obviously be a lot more stiff... but with that being said theres a thump on sharp bumps and doesnt sound good at all.. i can obviously deal with this as i am looking for a more firm ride.. but can someone explain please what that thump could be. it almost sounds like metal on metal but not terrible loud. Any help would be appreciated!
