Question about hardwire radar detector on F32
Hey guys,
I'm trying to hardwire an Escort 9500ix radar detector on my 2018 440i. Wiring - I know most people get power from the rearview mirror, but I'd like to see if it's possible to get power from the fuse box under the hood by passenger side. The fuse box seems to have a closed lid and doesn't look like it's possible to close it properly with a wire hanging out, is there a solution? Mounting control - I got 2 empty buttons by the light switch and I'm wondering if it's possible to pop those out and somehow mount the control inside the panel. I have no idea where to start and don't want to break anything from pulling the whole console. Attached is the picture of how I'm planning to set up to be. The red box is the control, the green box is where I want the control to be mounted at, orange box is the wire going into the engine bay through the side of the door. Thanks! -----------Update Oct 7, 2017:----------- Finally got time to update on how I finished the setup. Wiring - I took power from the rearview mirror. The front fuse box is sealed and I don't want to drill a hole for the wire and chance for the water going in. I have already got 2 wires ran to the back on both left and right side for my dashcam so I don't want to run another cable through. Switch - I just left it on top of the mirror bracket with double sided tape so it's still reachable but out of sight at the same time. Radar - There are debates on mounting it either high or low. I chose low because I've heard people had their radar mounted by the mirror. One day the whole thing fell, pulling the wires causing a short circus. I've also attached a picture of how the mirror bracket looks like inside. I started by pulling the left half to the left first before pulling the right side. You will need to force it a little and you might feel like breaking it after you pull it off. Hopefully, it gives you guys a better picture of how the clips look like from the inside. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=877278 It's not hollow behind those plastic buttons so you won't be able to simply remove those buttons. You'll need to do some butchering/fabrication. |
