Tracking / Racing / Autcross Section For F30
Hey Guys,
I am new to the forum and just purchased an 2012 328i, Sport Line as a semi-DD and NASA TT car. However, I am not new to BMW nor am I new to tracking cars. I suspect there are a fair number of members here who track or are interested in tracking the F30. A Tracking / Racing / Autocross section, specific to the F30, would be a great way for all of us to learn about how our cars perform on the track. This would include how the car responds to various modifications, preventive maintenance matters, and driving techique. E90post has this seciton and it is a great resource for people with the e90. Who else here would be interested in tracking section for the f30?

good idea. I have been to the track once with my new BMW and would definitely like to hear others' experiences...especially with regards to suspension mods

Great idea. Count me in. I have taken my car to the track a couple of times, and autocrossed it as well. We need to get the aftermarket into motion making some items we really need sooner than later - like camber plates for instance.
Let's hope the admins will warm-up to your excellent suggestion! |

I just spoke with AST (for coilovers) and Vorshlag (for camber plates) advising there is a definite need for quality suspension products on the F30. I will keep you guys posted on this.

I have my e36 M3 as my autocross car, but I'll take my F30 328xi out for an event or two just for the hell of it. I'll be keeping it in stock form/class as it's my DD and I already have the m3 to have fun with and dump money into. Ha. I'm looking forward to comparing the two cars too.

But the chassis is really well suited to track duty. I love the crisp turn-in thanks to the centralized mass. The motor is strong enough for now, and unlike the N54 equipped cars it doesn't overheat. I'm working with a shop here in LA to develop some brake ducts that will hopefully require a minimum amount of cutting. My goal is to have something functional but lease friendly. OP thanks for thinking to have this forum created. Good thinking! |

I'm not convinced my F30 won't overheat. I don't have a lot of faith in BMW when it comes to FI but I really enjoy the motor as a DD. I'm crossing my fingers the cooling is sorted for everyone who is going to track theirs.
With that said, I have KW V3s coming and camber plates and will take it out for a session just to see how it is. I am looking forward to testing it out ad curious about the lighter weight. |

That is great news! I am going to create a new post in the tracking section regarding heating/overheating. If you can basically give this same answer along with some more details (e.g., track, temp, minutes...etc), that would be a greater way to start that post.

Water temp is an important measurement. There was a secret way to display this on the E9X. Maybe the same holds true for the Fs. |

Haha!! And i took the 135i n55 to thw snake over the weekend and had to put in half a quart of oil just now. It was literally one session down the snake and one back up and it gave me a low oil warning! (But it was parked on a slope). Freaked out and coasted to the gas station. Oil levels were now in between min and max so put in half a quart. Now im gonna give it a complete oil change just to be safe.
