Yes please, can you stuff it with another turbo?
To be honest, I feel quite accomplished to get this done myself, initially I wanted to do it at a muffler shop, but they gave me so many excuses, "dont have BMW sockets, dont know how hard the cat is to take out, have to charge extra" etc. So I said " Its doable, there are many youtube vids for it, its not that hard" and they said " If its so easy, why don't you do it yourself?" and thats the moment I thought "You know what? challenge accepted."

Does anyone know the proper way to do a transmission adaption reset on our auto box ZF8? After this cat delete, my car seems to hold its gears longer, I tried ECO PRO, comfort and sport+, they all held gears for some reason and refuse to shift up, at very light throttle, my car in eco pro always shifted at 2.1k or 2.2k, now it hold the gear to almost 3k. So I want to do a throttle reset, I searched and people have said turn car on, hold gas for 30 seconds, turn car off, wait 2 mins then turn on, but many have said this did not work, does anyone actually know the proper way to reset our transmission shift points ? I'm going to look into bimmercode expert mode to see if I can code the reset there, any help is appreciated. Thanks !
P.S: I went for a "spirited drive" tonight, and there's still no CEL. The new acceleration is fun and worth it. It's just the transmission now goes "wtf, car feels different, I'm lost! When do I shift?"

Sometimes either disconnecting the battery for a while or just doing a fault code reset with a code reader can reset adaptations/trims. Even if you don't have any codes it's worth a shot.

I know, I actually called around and asked before I gutted it to see if its worth selling the stock DP and get a catless, scrap yards in the area all offered me $40 for it. So people can say all they want, I'm not convinced.

Look on ebay at "completed sales" - $180 - $450+ USD for working catalytic converters for 328/330/335/340. Its easy to find out - the data is there.

You can literally buy an aftermarket unit with the money you would have got for your stocker. It sounds like this is your first time doing this catalytic thing by your opening post - I've been working on BMWs for about 15 years. I don't care how common a 3-series is, the cat lists for an insane MSRP new and thus the use market is expensive, too. That's how economics works.

Actually you don't, all the parts have been removed and are taken off the shelf in the yard shop I been to. But I do see your point that I could sell the stock DP and bought an aftermarket catless, probably still with change left over. Alwell, it was my choice, atleast I won't have fitment issues going with a cheaper aftermarket catless. Plus the process of going through the pain of doing myself, I plan to work on this car myself too so this was a good experience.

as long as you don't have emissions to pass, I saved mine to throw on when that time comes especially because a used catless can go as low as $150-$175 (avg. $200). and even though they offered you $40 for your dp, how much do they actually sell them for? not $40
and just curious, uhhh what exactly were you searching for on ebay when you found turd in a box? smh... : ))

I'm gutting mine because rather than paying for a catless pipe and taking a loss i can easily buy a used one for less than $200 down the road to replace it (if i even ever need to). The 1 completed listing and 5 sale adds are from dealers that don't mind reposting 30day buy it now ads over and over until it sells. That's probably the same reason a local has relisted his multiple times on our facebook marketplace waiting for someone to buy it for $400. Check the classifieds on here and you'll see. |
