b58 almost stalling

After my 440i sits over night or after work I have an issue of rpm’s dropping when I apply gas in either reverse or drive.

Video

Any ideas?
VANOS?
Fuel breather valve?

rough Idle? If not, I doubt it's the breather valve as the idle would be choppy. Vanos solenoids are probably dirty. It would make sense seeing how there is little to no force on the engine when you start from a stop.

Idle doesn’t seem rough.

You talking about this VANOS part?

Wouldn’t I have other issues besides the first I press the pedal after sitting? That’s the only time this is happening.

yeah. seen a couple of videos on replacing these, its a little bit of a pain in the ass to get to them but its manageable if you have patience. It might not be the for sure answer (as I am not mechanically inclined, at least not as much as some people) but its a place to start, they are known to be a little shitty on the b58. I would assume its the intake solenoid as it happens from stop-start situations

Well it’s only happening after the car sits for hours. Not while in traffic, lights or coming out of the store normally.

ok. This is leading me to believe it is most likely the solenoids. They seem like they don't work properly until the engine reaches proper operating temps. Probably gunked up.

With that in mind, instead of putting it in to drive after the cold start rpm drop I waited about 1min longer and today I didn’t have the issue. Interesting 🤔

So my OBD reader came in. I’m getting a error code: 21A02D Combustion Control: Idle Irregular.

Found this https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1702690

So you were right. Gonna replace my intake Vanos actuator.

$60 + 30mins to do.

Plus BimmerLink is sick. Turned off that annoying ASD and I finally hear the turbo spool and my exhaust sounds like it’s in the rear like it should lol. Also keep valve open now 😁

Hey guys having the same issue here. Just wanted to confirm that replacing the vanos intake actuator resolved the "21A02D - Combustion Control: Idle irregular" fault code?

Was there any additional steps/programming required?

So I don’t have a solution, but I’ve literally had 3 N55 X5’s that do the exact same thing. One E70 and Two F15’s.

IMHO, let this sleeping dog lie. If there’s an underlying issue, you’ll eventually get a code. Spending time and money chasing down an issue that’s simply a minor inconvenience isn’t worth it.
