BMW F30 shut off while driving

UPDATE: previously on my last post I talked about my car shut off while driving, it's. 2015 335i xDrive with 65k miles. I was driving 30 mph and the car turned off and wouldn't start again. I had charged my battery overnight at advanced auto parts, I put the charged battery on the next morning, and my car started and maybe 5 seconds later after giving it 1 rev it shut off again and wouldn't start back up, the ground cable is fine, I disconnected it and connected it again and you can hear that it connected. I kept trying to push to start and Car would only make 1 click noise, I decided to go buy a new battery, the new battery wasn't oem, it was from advanced auto parts and when I tried to start my car it wouldn't start again, any ideas of what it could be at this point? Fuses? Alternator ? Starter ?

Garage List
Lights turn on? Key fob battery have power?
Gas tank full? Correct gas?

Did you get the same type of battery from the store?

It'll need to be registered later.

That one click sounds like bad starter but it would not make the car shut down. If it is not fuses then I suspect cable connections, start by checking the grounding of engine. Then the main cabling from the battery.

The one click is usually the starter solenoid engaging, as a battery too low in charge to turn the starter may be able to engage the solenoid. Do the lights work? If not or they're dim you've got a dead battery. If they look normal you've got a different problem.

There's no fuse on the starter motor. The current draw is way too high.

Low odds, but make sure the cables on the battery are tight. Also, a battery can be charged but still be weak--not give you the amps you need. If you have a multimeter, measure the voltage at the battery and at plus terminal under the hood.

Also, could your key battery be low? Not sure symptoms of that with this car...it's still new to me.

I kept trying to push to start and there was a small fire that lit up near the exhaust, further up from ground cable and I saw smoke so when I went under there was a little fire but I turned it off it was very small but I was lucky to see it

I would start with that area for your continued troubleshooting efforts

That sounds similar to the recall that they have with 5 series where the connector in the main positive cable gets corroded. There is a connector where it goes from inside the trunk to outside of the car. I have never heard F30 suffering from this issue but if the construction is same then I guess it can happen for us too.

Is it HPFP? This could cause it to shut off while driving or to start up and shut off. Get it scanned for codes.

Definitely sounds like your altenator went bad. Had this happen to me a few years back on my infinit M35 check the voltage on alternator if its dead it doesnt matter if you charge up or get a new battery itll die again. Take it from experience!

I agree with Gertsee car dies while running it is not battery related issue
alternator is most likely but you should have gotten some kind of light on your dash but again I would have the alternator checked or at least verify that it is still charging. If you get the car running disconnect the battery while it is running if it dies then the alternator is no good.

Bad alternator experience...driving to Columbus International in the middle of a snow storm at 5 a.m. Halfway there, the wipers started slowing down, then the car came to a stop, not able to re-start. In the middle of farm country; fortunately, there were lights on in a farmhouse and the wife was able to take us on to the airport. Barely made it to our flight, just got on and they shut the door. Yup, turned out to be a bad alternator.
