Got a 2013 335i 90k no problems besides a cheap $35 coolant hose breaking at a joint. my E46 323i lasted 212k miles with the usual M52/M54 problems but ran perfectly till someone totaled it! Hope for many trouble free miles in my F30!

Was considering canceling my extended warranty but seems like a lot of the previous post mention using it.

Hmmmmm

My first issue is the driver window starts to make tick-tick-tick noise when rolling up, it seems that the regulator and/or associated components need to be lubed.

Wow 212k miles on M54, so was that a MT? Drove 100k miles on an E39 3.0L M54 5MT, it was a memorable ride!

Was actually a M52TU but essentially the same engine, M54 recieved minor updates over the M52TU like drive by wire ect. Yep it was a manual trans. I love my F30 but I still miss that car sometimes!

Own 320i xDrive @32k

Owning 2014 F30 320i xDrive since 2017 @10k and now I'm @32k.

No issues so far except one engineer mentioned that the oil filter gasket and oil pan gasket was leaking but turned out that they were not leaking actually.

I've only had the '15 328i base model for 2.5 months, so it's way too early to tell. I have another month or so of the factory warranty, and a year's CPO after that. It was built in June of 2015, so I'm hoping there will be no timing chain problems. I've seen only the following issues:

-- Tail lamp malfunction, the corroded connector that we've read about here; fixed by dealer under original warranty

-- Rattle when driving, corrected by the dealer for free. Cause? A lipstick in the under-seat air vent.

Otherwise, everything I've tested works, my fuel mileage is outstanding, and the car rides, handles, and accelerates beautifully. This isn't my first German car: I drove 3 models of BMW's loved/hated Stuttgart rival for 10 years, and each had issues, but each was more than 7 years old when I bought it. Each was great to drive, but I never saw anything like the F30's fuel mileage, and none of them had its hp or torque. During my 12 years of Buick driving, I swore, "No more German cars; too pricey to fix and feed." But when I was considering BMWs, my regular mechanic advised me the vehicles are solid and reliable. In fact his wife drives one. And parts, he said, are cheaper than on comparable MBs.

So I took a leap. And at this moment, I am glad I did.

Yeah, that fuel tank is pretty small. 15.8 gallons? Really? Of course if BMW upgraded to an 18-gallon tank, say, that would be more weight for the car to carry, and might disturb that nearly 50/50 front/rear weight distribution.

Purchased my 2012 F30 5 years ago with 27k miles & CPO. I've had absolutely 0 issues with the car. At 107k miles, timing chain issue hit and took the motor. Other then that I loved the car

Have a 2018 340 that I bought in Nov of 2017 and have been enjoying it. Has 20k miles now, with a lot of in town driving and many road trips in Louisiana and surrounding states. So far other than regular maintenance and some new tires due to wear and another set due to my apparent fondness for roofing nails, I have no issues. Hopefully it stays that way. My old e46 was pretty good too with a pretty good repair record over the 15 or so years I had the car.

Biggest problems I have seen on f30post over a couple years.

-n55 charge pipe explosions
-spark plug problems after tunes
-people trying to sell jb4 to buy the better BM3
-My steering isn't as good as hydrologic steering complaints
-b58 rock damage from stones
-n20 blowing up because is a 4 cylinder with high compression
-young people putting M badges on 328i and 330i
-the G20 3 series isn't as good but we might all own one in 6 years when they are cheap
-M sport steering wheels get dirty and look gross
-why isn't there N55/B58 in the station wagon 3 series USA
-why does Xdrive ride higher and roll more
-if I mod my car will bmw fix my car when I break it

That's about it

Just don't buy high mileage crap boxes thinking you are saving money. If you cut corners you will pay at some point. Make sure to do all maintenance and don't abuse the car.

Good luck!

I have my F31 328d Touring since September 2014 it had 8000kms back then now 91000kms. So far I had 2 problems: Transfert case did fail and i had a defective NOx sensor. Both fix were done under warranty.
Apart from that it has been pretty good so far.

I think you were largely joking, but I've never heard of this one.

The compression ratio of the n20 isn't high, actually -- only 10.3 to 1, I believe. As a comparison, the 2.0L Mazda3 engine uses 13 to 1 -- and in countries with better gas Mazda will bump it up to 14 to 1.

How many miles were in your E46? I got rid of my 2004, which I bought new, after 190k miles in Jan 2019 Except for a couple of fluid leaks over the years that thing was rock solid reliable. I regret not holding on to it as a project car.

2015 335i xDrive currently at 52k miles. Bought it in February with 46k miles, immediately changed the oil, coolant, trans fluid, spark plugs, and went FBO. I drive the car pretty hard (and track it occasionally) and absolutely zero issues so far other than a leaking strut. I don't want to jinx it but so far this has been the most reliable modified car I've owned.

My e46 was totaled at around 130-140k miles. My wife hydrolocked the engine (crazy rain storm, high water and a damaged engine). Had that not occurred I would have kept the car and felt very good about giving it to my now teen driver. We drove everywhere in the car and I never worried about it. We really only had problems with the AC. Living in Louisiana that was a problem. That lengthy repair lucky was fixed under warranty. I had a water pump problem at maybe 90k and the doors seemed to leak during rain storms (had it fixed several times) and had a few other minor things over the 15 years we had it. It was a fun car, but alas sold for parts I guess. I used the insurance money for my new car. So it sort of lives on in spirit.

For a just shy of $50k car, I would like to think this would be the case but: 34k miles, almost 3 years in and zero issues. Been totally reliable. I've had a few little interior trim buzzing and rattling that I got taken care of at dealer and fixed myself but I would hardly put that under the reliability category. Seems like I could easily take this car to the 100k mile mark with regular maintenance and some preventative. For me 100k miles would take about 7 years, so..
