Besides the obvious how can we keep it from happening again? I feel like the overly stiff run flats played a part in my case.

Not a good sign since it's not only 1 case.

I have a question installing the bilstein b8 with h&r sport. Was told by my garage that the front bumpstop cannot be used due to the big shaft size of the B8's but was able to keep the dust boot. So no bumpstop for the front.

For the rears, did you just reuse the oem bumpstop and dustboot? Do you need to chop the bumpstop?

I think we just went without bump stops. Did it a while ago so don't specifically remember. I figured these were weak because my tech kept suggesting I use beefier aftermarket ones.

Front bilsteins have internal bumpstops. You can use the dustboot.

The rears retain everything. From my research people don't cut the rear oem bumpstops for this particular application so I didn't either. On other cars I have seen people cut the rear bumpstops but I guess we don't need to for ours.

Well, it seems like it just happened to me, my wife came home saying there's are some rattling nose after she went over a pothole.
this is the first time I see this happened with such minimal mod. I am running H&R Sport and Bilstein B8. Is there an aftermarket beefier version?

I am quite annoyed with BMW, there is still no fix for my steering knocking noise.

same thing happen to me. i have hr sport and bilstein also with m3 lower control arm. theres alot of knocking noise in front after the control arm. but its better than the stock suspension. cost me $80 for top strut mount parts and $100 to replace it. so it wasnt that bad.

Did you replaced it with the same original parts? Won't it happen again if they are the same parts?

Some city will pay you back for damages from potholes... check it out guys and gals...

But you have to be ready to dance and perform the waving hands in front of city hall... keep your receipts!

A picture of the hole will help tremendously. ..

Where did you buy the mount from? That's way cheaper than what I spent. It would be good to know for when it happens again.

On the plus side, I got the revised part number tophats and so far so good. Eventually I will get rid off run flats. I think they have a lot to do with it.

Are the revised ones stronger than the original? do you mind sharing the part number?

I will when I get home. I took pics. They look the same but BMW recommended me to replace both instead of just the one. The look almost identical. Maybe the rubber was softer on the revised one. I took pics but didn't know where to host them.

I am next one

The same thing happened to me yesterday. Low speed 20mph, small hole (1 inch deep). I think it is time to admit that BILSTEIN B8 and HR sport is a mistake. I am very happy how it behaves on good roads but on bumpy roads it is disaster. I need to concentrate more on wholes than on driving.

The way the 'hub' is constructed seems weak, its like 2 piece held together by the small strip around the top piece. looks as though it is meant to be broken, it should've been single piece construction. you guys think with normal non run flats will avoid this issue?

I do not think that HUB is an issue here. I would rather think about damper or combo damper + spring. In normal circumstances damper should never go above spring unless spring is too short or damper gets locked. In my case it is damper which got locked. I called local Bilstein representative asking if they are aware of the issue. The answer was that they are not. I was requested to claim it via the service where I purchased it. Maybe the others unlucky could follow the same path so the message comes to manufacturer from more sources.

so, staying stock struts and shocks a better option than bilsteins on the H&R sports right now? my car feels like its going to rip apart on significant bumps. the shop i went to said it was okay to stick with the stock setup with the sport springs, but it feels awful

I am considering another setup: standard springs + bilstein B6. I do not mind the car being a bit higher but I want to eliminate body roll. B6 is for std springs but should be harder. I have only two challnges here: need to sell HR sport and bilstein B8 and more important I need to be sure that bilstein B6 being will not demolish my cup again .
