On the way to the Holler Taproom in Brighton the other day, we came across this bit of 'Avengers' graffiti.

A couple of shots of LNER K1 loco #62005 hauling The Jacobite from Fort William to Mallaig today.
First image shows it storming up the 1 in 48 gradient on Beasdale Bank.
The second shows The Jacobite drifting through Morar Station.

The Summer Solstice

Yesterday, being the longest day, I thought it would be a good idea to go out and capture sunrise and sunset.
Up here, on 21st June, sunrise is at 04:11 and sunset at 22:18, so a little more than 18 hours between the two !
Got up at 03:30 (my wife thinks I'm mad) and down to our East Beach for sunrise.
Unfortunately low cloud on the horizon prevented me actually seeing the sun rise, but I think the colours and the reflections in the still water of the River Lossie Estuary made taking the shot worthwhile, at the time the sun was rising.

So now I just have to stay awake for 18 hours.

Back out again at 21:00 and this time over to our West Beach to capture the setting sun.
The evening was warm and still with some nice cloud formations that looked promising.
As the sun dropped lower over The Moray Firth the colours picked up.
This shot was taken just a couple of minutes before actual sunset as the sun slipped down behind the mountains of Easter Ross across The Moray Firth.

Lossiemouth

Here's an image taken last December here in Lossiemouth. I've just been re-processing it and lightening up the shadows with a view to making a print of it. I've only just spotted the hint of aurora in the sky, and I'm just amazed I never saw it before.

Maybe I need to go to Specsavers !
