Question about non-RFT on 2013 328i
Hoping someone can answer this before I wind up just going and replacing my tires again...
I recently ditched the RFT's on my '13 f30 328i - I ended up with these Mastercrafts that they gave me a discount on and I told them I wanted "all season".. however, since these tires went on the car, my suspension feels like garbage. I'm bouncing all over the highway, there is a lot of under-car rumbling going over certain road bumps and dips but not all, and it just feels wrong... I know everyone praises the non run flats but I either got the wrong tires (not surprising) or I'm doing something wrong aka expecting something more than what I have. I don't know the ride just feels bumpy and loose and bouncy; not what it felt like with the original RFTs on and it used to corner and handle well also. Now it just feels weird. I have no problem going back and getting the *right* tires on the car and keeping these as spares but I want to make sure it's not just my suspension magically taking a sh*t after new tires at 82k... Thoughts? |

That sounds like a super bargain-basement tire brand to me. Is there a more specific model name on the side of the tires? A speed rating perhaps? I'm curious to know more specifically what they sold you.
I ditched RFT's on my '14 for Continental ExtremeContact DWS-06's and don't have any of what you're describing. There's a lot more that should be involved in tire shopping than throwing the dart at the cheapest one recommended by the shop. I used Tirerack to read expert and consumer reviews but now I just keep going back to the DWS'.

Never heard of these tires. Since they are all season that is not a good sign, though some bimmers do have all seasons perelli cinturato p7 tires and they are prettty good for what they are. If the tires suck they will cause more body roll and reduce handling and traction. The tires are the most important part of the car as they are your contact with the road so I would not skimp though some discount brands are pretty good. Just know what you're buying.

Sound like Walmart brand tires. Can we get pics or specs? Model name? Size? Speed rating? etc?

Mastercraft is a subsidiary of Cooper. Reviews seem hit or miss.

Yes sorry, they are Cooper MasterCraft tires.
I just dropped the car off and have them installing Bridgestone Driveguards (RFT)- I have 30 days to return if they still aren't working out. I asked about the Continental DWS but they had to order them, so I thought about the idea of run flats and a spare and all that... and decided it's probably smarter to run those with all the driving I do. To be completely honest, as much as I thought I didn't like the RFTs, I much prefer the harder ride and nicer cornering over this garbage. |

I'm fairly certain I've never heard anyone praise Mastercraft tires, maybe on the Trabant forum.
Changing from a high performance run flat with extremely stiff sidewalls to a low performance conventional tire is going to transform the car in the wrong direction. Check your tire pressures. Inflate fronts to 40 and rears to 36 and see if handling improves. Make sure these pressures don't exceed max shown on sidewall. This won't restore the crisp steering response you had, but might be acceptable. |

Your experience switching to non RFT tires is very common. The combination of softer OEM shocks, softer side wall, and springs designed for comfort will lead to the symptoms you experienced.
What wheels does your vehicle have: 17", 18", or 19"? |

I have the Mastercraft Glacier Trex for the winter on my E39. They were recommended by a local wheel repair place - good performance, but not run-flats.

I looked on their website they don't really make performance oriented tires. There are no summer tires in their lineup and they are more specialized in SUV and non performance all seasons and winter tires. Not really ideal for a BMW. If you are looking for good but inexpensive performance all seasons go flats I would go with Kumho.

Those coming from RFT that want an all season and to keep the stiffer sidewall feeling, Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ is one to consider.
