Me too. I'm surprised BMW haven't asked for it back. By all accounts it's the most accomplished SUV, maybe even car, that they've ever built. It's a modern day miracle.

It's a little rich to try and suggest someone is being bitchy and then say it is their time of the month. Rather distasteful.

So I'm just supposed to take insults and not give anything back? Such a ridiculous comment is obviously just bait, so I'm not going to rise to it.

OK let's draw a line under it. I like to think over time the tone of my posts speaks for itself. I would have thought this one would have been taken in the spirit it was intended. Good to know where people's various banter thresholds are, I'll know for next time.

I can take a joke mate, but when it's the same joke over and over it just wears very thin

I've not driven the M4x versions of the X3 or any 335d, but all the same this does not surprise me either.

I felt that the Range Rover Sports I drove, both of which were Dynamics with active anti-roll and other tricks both handled more satisfyingly than my 440i at normal road speeds. Especially the PHEV with instant torque firing you where you wanted to go. Going back to my comments on the model X and Cayenne, I had similar thoughts there too, although they were brief drives.

Whilst the SUVs have mass and CoG against them, they can deploy trickery to fight physics. The same trickery in a saloon/hatch would be even more impressive, of course, but if it's not there in the first place...
Exactly mate, some people are just so stuck in the past and unwilling to accept that some SUVs handle well these days. Times change, things move on, but unfortunately some people don't.
Technology means handle well compared to SUV's of the past. Cars still handle better due to the laws of physics which don't move on.

That may be your opinion, but it's not true in my experience.

Bit late to this post...and a bit scared to add my comments.

My X3 meets my needs for a car. I agree that it's not everybody's cup of tea, but there are benefits (as detailed in other posts) which work for my needs.

What you need is a full on retired regional manager spec 730d

1 Small wheels with balloon tyres, check
2 Grey/green paint job, check
3 No privacy glass, check

It's fab!

The laws of physics are completely true, a car with a higher ground clearance, more compliant tyres, suspension well suited to road use and clever drivetrain technologies makes a vehicle that is quicker point to point across country than a saloon or coupe which are typically setup and tested on race tracks or for pootling along motorways with the best efficiency.

The sad thing is that you really believe that.

The reason people take the micky is that whatever car you have, it is the best thing in the world and nothing is better.....until you change, and then your new car obviously becomes that. What sort of roads are you driving on point to point where a coupe or saloon doesn't have enough ground clearance?

Your car is nice I'm sure, but it most certainly is not faster point to point than a coupe with similar power and similar suspension and brake upgrades.
