I hope I can get some luck here with getting some feedback. I'm looking to buy a 2014 328d with 140k miles on it for daily driver, i'll put around 10k-12k miles on it per year. For $11,800 is this a good deal? Or should I not do it because of the mileage?

Not sure what the specs are on the car but KBB shows the approx value at $7-10k at that mileage for a base model, so unless you're getting an xdrive with the msport package or a lot of optional extras, I'd probably look for something else with fewer miles.

I have a 2014 328d and it is running great at 115k miles. I have seen few used car for around 14k. 11k is a good price I'd say. Diesel engine is smooth and reliable.

How’s the 328d doing? If you still have it, thinking of purchasing a 2017 myself after reading up on all the issues i’m not sure since most of them do say that they got fixed after 2013.

Car’s good! Almost 90 thousand miles on the clock and the only thing that’s broken that wasn’t covered by recall or warranty was the def transfer pump. You’ll be better off with an LCI obviously in terms of reliability, the only downside is that tuning it will be more difficult since the DME is locked, so you’ll have to either mail it to the tuner or go get it bench unlocked somewhere. I don’t think it can be done via OBD2 like my 2015.

I’ve read conflicting info on this so I’m honestly not 100% sure. The forum says that the LCI DDE was changed but that it’s still flashable. KermaTDI’s website says for stage 1 tuning, LCI cars need the DDE sent in, but for stage 2 it doesn’t say that, so either it’s a mistake on their part or the QPro unit they send out for stage 1 only works with Pre-LCI cars unlike the remote enet tuning that’s done for stage 2.

Andrew, did you consider other companies to do your tune? I looked up KermaTDI, and they won't mess with the EGR valve which is a deal breaker for me. I have three priorities from most to least important:
1. Eliminate SCR CELs and countdowns if possible. I have no problem filling up the DEF every time I change the oil and letting the system work normally, but countdowns that could potentially strand me are a serious hazard since I go off the grid. I have an annoying 805256 fault right now that I'm trying to figure out how to respond to. 2. Code out EGR or at least minimize it while leaving the post-recall plumbing in place. I blasted carbon off my valves for the first time this summer at 116K miles and it was an unpleasant undertaking, particularly when I took my intake manifold to the self-serve car wash and ended up wearing liquid cancer. I hope to delay my next carbon cleaning as long as possible. 3. Stage 1 performance gains. I'm much more interested in 1500-2000 RPM torque than I am 3500 RPM horsepower. If durability of the turbo or DPF are compromised, then I don't even want that. Increased performance would be great, but fuel economy is more important for this car, and durability much more important still. Last weekend, I was in the desert of SE Oregon battling fault codes. I hated it. This car is our family's GT cruiser and torquey tower. I have an E46 coupe with a sexy manual 6 for jobs that are less business and more pleasure. I appreciate your advice. |
