Driveshaft upgrade

So I have an appointment to get the Pure 800 cast, DS2 and new injectors installed 4/27. I plan on having Doug Newton tune it on E40-E50. I'm also going to pick up a pair of Welds and 275/40R17 MT ET Streets to go to the track with. Is anyone running this driveshaft? Has there been an increase in shaft failure in the 600+ WHP range? I already have the JXB upgraded carrier bearing.

Currently running stock driveshaft tuned by Doug Newton as well on DAW v2.5+ and DS2. I would recommend going with the driveshaftpro upgrade as that will be my next upgrade and I have not heard of anyone blowing up their driveshaft @ the 600whp-650whp range.

It’s not the hp that breaks the driveshaft, it’s the force of the Tq applied when you get good/great traction or if you wheel hop. It’s dig racing that breaks them, roll racing is highly unlikely to break it. The force applied isn’t nearly the same.

I broke the stock driveshaft when I was on Hoosier drag radials and stock turbo at the track. I got the DSP driveshaft from MRM as well, takes about a week from order to delivery. Unfortunately I haven’t been back to the track, but the few times I’ve launched it on the street to do a dragy run, I’ve managed to cut a few 1.7 60’s without issue.

Tbh if I was to do it over, I would go custom. There’s nothing wrong with the DSP driveshaft, I would go about it a different way as personal preference.

As far tires, I’d highly suggest getting the M/T ET street R’s over the SS’s. Since you’re going with a upgraded turbo, you may want to look at getting the 305/45 size if you’re stock height and do the minor modifications needed to make them work. I’m currently on the 275/40 size, but going with a similar setup as you and I’m more than likely going with the larger tire.

If you’re in Texas, I may consider getting rid of my current setup for the right price.

I would love to go with 305s, but I’m an F22, so that isn’t happening!

Usually what comes with that power range of 600-650whp in B58 powered cars is 600-650wtq sorry for the confusion

Senshine Motors, between Utica and Rome. I could do it myself, but just don’t have the time. My guy that did the VTT GC, a couple years ago is MIA.

BTW, if anyone’s interested in a GC with ~7-8k miles and a Dorch Stage 1, they’ll be on the classifieds.

Again, I highly doubt anyone will ever break the driveshaft at when making pulls from a roll. I haven’t seen anyone do so and if they have it’s been very few, but I could be wrong.

If that’s the case, accept no substitutes and definitely go with M/T ET street R tires if you can’t go bigger than the 275/40.

How much smaller are the 2 series in the rear wheel wells? The 305/45 combo isn’t direct fit for a 3/4 series either, but it does take minor modifications to make it work.

Do you just not like the GC, or why are you ditching it so soon?

You are right I have definitely seen some people twist their driveshaft on a roll race (if the car is consistently used for 60-130s, roll races, etc) but it is not often if you conservatively drive at times. I would definitely upgrade to the Driveshaftpro as I have not seen any failures in the 600-700whp/wtq range

Bro contact driveshaftpro directly and it might be cheaper. They’re in California and you can Google them. Based in garden grove.

It's gonna be tight with the 275's. I currently have 265 Michelin PS4S and they run a bit wide. I may need to run a bit more negative camber. I don't think anyone has gotten wider than 275 on a 2 Series.

Really wanted the Pure 800 back in 2021, but it was a two month back order, so went with VTT. Once the slightly bigger cast version dropped, decided to do it and the DS2. Doug Newton has a cast Pure 800/DS2 Gen 1 340i, running 60-130 in 6.70 seconds, which is almost a full second quicker than my current setup. Hoping to run 10.40's in the quarter. It's tough with RWD.

I ended up breaking my driveshaft at the base near my rear diff I'm only stage 2 dp, front mount intake and tune, going with a Driveshaft Pro and I would not recommend getting it from MRM they don't ship out orders and charge your card no communication at all either I had to file fraud to get my money back.
