Trying to complete MHD JB4 backend flash
Alright I really tried to figure this out without throwing the 'I'm fucking lost' flag but I'm fucking lost. Seems like there are a few versions of instructions on this process out there and some seem older than others and are contradictory.
Here's where I'm at: -I've completed the JB4 firmware update via the cell/bluetooth connection. -I've downloaded the MHD app and paid the $249 license fee -I've downloaded the latest MHD-JB4 backend flash file and unzipped it using Win Zip. This resulted in 6 files labeled- B58_Stock.bin, B58.xdf, JB4_B58_e85_3.bin, JB4_B58_e85_WMI, JB4_B58_RACE_3.bin, and JB4_B58_RACE_WMI_3.bin One of the older sticky threads says I need to "go into the JB4 app settings tab, read only tab, find the correct version of your car, IJEOS or I8AOS" because I'll need that later to determine the correct Backend Flash file. Well there is no read only tab in the JB4 app settings and those alpha-numeric designations don't seem to correlate to any of the 6 files I have to choose from. Is this a step I can ignore now? I just don't want to set up the charger and initiate the flash and get to a step I don't understand or don't know which file to select. For reference, the car is a 2016 340i xDrive MPPSK. I'm running catless DP and intake and plan to use the BEF to move to an E50 or E60 blend with 93 octane. If I had to guess, I'm assuming it's the JB4_B58_e85_3.bin file I want to flash but I do NOT want to guess. Can anyone advise or direct me to more updated instructions that apply to my vehicle? Most of the YT videos I've watched are older 335's and so the file and firmware info is incorrect so they aren't any help. Terry@bms help!

I've been really tempted to switch to MHD BEF, but this is the kind of stuff that keeps me from pulling the trigger. The support is just not there. Terry responds to stuff at random when he can, and so do other users, but there are too many things to figure out and I don't have the time to immerse myself in all things MHD/JB4/Meth just so I can figure out what questions I need to ask. Good luck.

You’ll want to start with the race_3 file for pump gas.
Edit: just saw you were going to do e50/60. See terry’s responses here for reference https://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59337 Last edited by will0621; 11-18-2019 at 09:20 PM.. |

You are mixing up directions for different platforms. They make JB4s for like 40 different motors. You only should concern yourself with the BMW B58 back end flash thread.
Did you ask the question in the B58 thread? The RACE file is usually what you start with. Only JB4 setting required is setting options (formerly FUD) bit6 on so the JB4 knows your flash is loaded. |

1. The MHD flasher app has a PDF file attached which is horrendously out of date. It has a whole section on JB4 stacking with MHD and the instructions are mostly right, but it references the old N54 vehicle version stuff and says you need it to pick the right flash file. I had the correct flash files from the B58 forum page and they didn't line up with the MHD instructions. The MHD PDF doesn't even list the B58 engine anywhere in it as a supported engine type. 2. As you mentioned, the latest JB4 firmware update drops the heading "Future Use D" from the settings page. There is a "Future Use A" and then the options section and item #6 is totally unlabeled. None of the forum instructions mention this so I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what FUD stood for and then once I knew, couldn't find it in the app. So I got through it but yeah, it's nerve wracking to use parts of instructions from various areas, select unlabeled settings and turn them "on", knowing that if you do this wrong you could brick your $50K car. Not for the faint of heart lol. On the upside, I will say that Terry has been consistently awesome, responsive and always quick to review logs. He's a legend in the tuning community for a reason. Thx T.

So altogether I spent: Bluetooth JB4 upgrade- $140 JB4 App- $27 MHD license- $249 Bimmergeeks cable- $45 I'm running 50% E-85 in the car right now and I'm not using flex fuel wires or EWG. According to Terry in 2017- "For the B58 the EWG wires are an add on and generally only used if logs indicate excessive throttle closure, or if running WMI and using absolute boost maps. FF has little actual benefit on the application and is mainly used for those doing their own testing/analysis." Hope this info helps. Thx T.

So you didn't need the EWG Add-On Connector or the Fuel Pressure Connector? I know the Fuel Pressure Connector was made obsolete when they added it in the app, but I thought you needed the EWG Connector to do the BEF. But for some reason I thought I read somewhere you needed the EWG Connector for the BEF.
