I will be doing my first oil change, outside of the dealership, next week. This is a great thread. I'm going to likely stick with bmw oem brand oil and add in a oil additive from Liqui Moly. Excited!

That's because your E46 had a buffered coolant temp gauge and your 335i has an oil temp gauge. Oil temps always lag coolant temps.
Yeah, you're right. Guess I never thought of that!?.. However, when watching the coolant vs the oil temps in my F30 on my JB4 they're not too far off when hitting the 160° safety minimum!?...

So the BMW OEM- a 5W30 Shell, feel vastly inferior to Shell 40, and both seem below any Liqui Molly. In essence, OEM new is less than Liqui Molly at 10,000 kms!
