bad touch up or rust bubble
I was detailing my car and then I sow this. My heart skipped. I'm the second owner. Car has never been hit or accidented according to carfax.
How can i tell if its a bad touch up paint or a rust bubble. Note: I got it inspected at the BMW dealer but I need your feedbacks first.

That appears to be rust, to me.

You'll find out what it is when you have it fixed, which you should do in any event.

That's what I'm thinking as well, but what makes you say that? I'm curious

It doesn't look like it was applied to the surface to me - that's why I think rust from beneath the paint. Glad to hear warranty will cover it - you just need a competent shop!

The only way to know for sure also happens to be the very first step in fixing it, wet sanding it to flush. If it's just a glob of touch up paint the only thing wet sanding will reveal is more paint.

Surprised BMW even covered that under warranty or decided to just cover the cost. Other than rust, which BMW is still hesitant on covering without a comprehensive inspection, BMW almost never covers these things especially where a touch up was performed.
Good for them for covering this. |

If it was my dealership it would be fixed gratis, under the theory that it shouldn't have gone off the lot like that. It should have been spotted and taken care of as part of the used car reconditioning process.
