Wastegate Actuator Replacement (N26)
I will be replacing my wastegate actuator and had a couple of questions:
1. Is it necessary to leave the old actuator arm with the old retaining clip on or can I replace those old components with the new ones? 2. Will I need to adjust the adjustment nuts on the actuator and if so where in ISTA/D will I be able to run a test to determine the correct adjustments for the new actuator nuts? (I've been playing with the program but I seem to be missing where the diagnostic test would be for the changing of this component and any corresponding adjustments.) Any help answering these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Should give you everything you need minus the ISTA+ part. I currently don't have it installed to try and find it but hopefully, someone can speak on that part.

I did not touch the nut at all after I replaced the actuator. It had a blue painted line on the tread/nut which I assume is pre-positioned from the manufacturer and left alone.

If you have a faulty actuator, one would presume you'd replace it.

Thanks! I assume there are none, but did any issues arise from not adjusting the nuts?

Here is the proper way to adjust the arm. Essentially you want to see a HALF Moon when matting the opening to the arm.

Considering a brand new, complete OEM wastegate is under $300 and the part is very open and exposed (simple swap). I believe this is a $500-$600 absolute maximum. Dont get ripped off. Have them explain why its double? I do not believe there is any programming involved. Someone correct, if Im wrong. |

If you have a n26, check with the dealer as they are SULEV motors and see if wastegates are covered under the warranty.

My .02 on this topic. I experienced sporadic error codes at start up during the normal testing sequence. A restart would reset it and I was GTG for a few months, until recently when it went into limp mode reduced power and nothing would get the car out of it. Pulled codes, all the of the usual actuator errors, charge error, etc....
I ordered one of the aftermarket actuators from Ebay, plugged it on and I received a 123516 Line Disconnection error. Turned out to be a a bad actuator. I installed the new unit before I received the Enet cable for ISTA, else I would have adjusted the old unit first. Plugged my old unit back in and I started ISTA+, ISTA told me I was -2.93mm off, adjusted it and it calibrated the rest and it have been great since. BTW, I did not remove the cotter pin, I instead just removed the front nut, leaving the rear (silver cap) nut alone and pulling the linkage off. Apparently some have been able to successful replace the actuator without ISTA, but I would imagine that it should still be calibrated afterwards. I am still going to order a new unit, this time OEM. Happy to post up the ISTA steps if someone needs them, but the instructions on how and where are in ISTA. Car has 93k miles, part is not not under emissions warranty. Hey guys, I'm trying to adjust the actuator to get rid of rattles (Video below), which rods am I supposed to turn?
It seems to rattle on both ends, the end that connects to the wastegate, and the other side that connect to the actuator. Should there be any play between those parts? Should I place some C-Clips between them? Or just tighten the yellow rod? Last edited by franco.altuna; 05-09-2020 at 11:58 PM.. |

My first post/reply here.
Just wanted everybody to know that if you have the SULEV warranty (many cars have this, i just found out) the wastegate actuator is covered. I have been getting a drive train malfunction intermittently and the car would go into limp mode. Indy shop quoted $1200, the dealer replaced the part under warranty, I paid $0. So if you have the "drivetrain malfunction - drive moderately" issue and it turns out to be the waste-gate actuator, this is covered till 150,000/15 yrs on SULEV cars. I hope this helps somebody! |

Stinks, because the wastegate actuator is acting up. I'm guessing a simple adjustment would take care of it, but not sure I'm up for learning how to use ISTA/D to do it properly. Stinks too, as we are trying to sell the car and this just started happening the other day. |
