New Mods for F30

Hey guys! I wanted to get some extra info on this.. I have a 320i 2015 and I would like to put some mods on it and I'm deciding between a performance exhaust or a downpipe? Plus, I've heard from different people that I would need to get the car tuned on either one because the engine light would pop up and I want to keep that from happening.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Not trying to spend a lot of money but would also want to prevent buying cheap quality items.

A sport exhaust... whether it be a full cat back system or an axle back... will not cause a CEL.

That being said... a sport exhaust will net you zero gains, performance wise. It will improve the almost non existent tone of the N20/N26.

A catless downpipe has the ability to increase performance but WILL give you a CEL unless you have a specific flash tune that can turn off "cat monitoring."

If its N20, go for bootmod3. Easily outperform 328i

I would get a flash tune not a piggyback tune.

JB4 is a great choice but its not a flash tune.

Save your money & buy a better base to modify next time around. You can dump a lot of money into a 320 but never get the performance level you would really like compared to way too many other cars.

To answer your question a tune will make the car quicker an exhaust will make it sound better. Down-pipes are only going to do anything with a high level tune.

If you just want better sound, go for performance exhaust.

If you want better performance, go with downpipe. However, the downpipe alone won't do much by itself. It is usually used in combo with performance air intake and chip (JB4 or other).

Performance exhaust won't give you check engine light, but catless downpipe will trigger faults.
