MPE vs Catless Downpipe N20

Hi guys, I current have a 2015 BMW 428. I currently have stage 1 93 octane tune on. I just bought a intercooler and I am trying to see if I should get a MPE or a downpipe? What are the benefits? I want to start my car and hear a nice little roar. Preferably no loud droning noise.

Thanks

Downpipe, it provides power and sound.

For best sound, add the REMUS axle back

Youll need an exhaust after putting a downpipe on an N20/N26. It will sound like crap with the stock exhaust. Been there, done that.

I guess, on an N20 is not as shitty as an N26, since you dont have a second cat.

I’m currently running a catless dp and the MPE and it sounds absolutely amazing so... why not both 😅

Not much point in an intercooler if you don't upgrade the down pipe....

I've got plenty of catless + MPE clips on my YouTube channel if you're looking to get an idea of what it sounds like.

Not really... An intercooler will lower IATs on a stock car too, which is certainly "a point" enough to me.

Yeah but you cant/shouldnt run stage 2 with just an intercooler and muffler....

Agreed, you need a downpipe.

Long story short, you need a down pipe and intercooler, you dont need an axleback/catback...

Well, yes, to run stage 2 you need an FMIC and downpipe upgrade. But he was just asking how to make his car sound better, and the simple answer is an axle back.

Downpipe would be most beneficial, Especially with the appropriate MAP.

Went downpipe first with stock exhaust. Results were increased overall loudness similar to or just a tad bit over just an axleback mod. Burbles sounds most apparent change.

After adding AWE touring axle back with the downpipe. Resulted in double the previous volume similar to catback only mod. Burble pops can turn into gunshots.

I imaging DP and catback would be a whole step louder than a typical catback only mod. IF you were trying to get to that level. :P

I just installed ER downpipe on mine. Definitely sounds better especially with 335i exhaust also.

Does an N20 just have the cat in the DP, or is there another as well, meaning with catless DP it could still get through an MOT in the UK?

N20 is a single cat design which is in the downpipe. N26 has an additional cat in the midpipe. Definitely wouldn't pass any emissions test without a cat. Thankfully a downpipe is not difficult to replace when time for an emissions test.

MPE for sound gains, Downpipe for performance gains.
Your decision
