Bluetooth my music!!

This has probably already been discussed...apologies if it has.
I have a F30 luxury with basic business sat nav/media.

It Bluetooth's my phone ok....but not my music, so have to plug in my phone via aux cable which is a proper pain.

Can this be upgraded?? Software change? Or something?

With some coding you can enable full Bluetooth audio streaming.

And yes, it has been asked before. Please use the search feature before posting.

If your opposed to going the coding route, I purchased one of these off of amazon a few weeks ago and it has worked perfectly for me!

Here's the link:
Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit for Cars with Aux Input Jack (3.5 mm) - Supports AptX

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009NLTW60..._dQXd4dsXIxhAY

I went a hid all the wiring underneath the iDrive controller so it looks as if nothing is there, it's great.

iPhone or android? And what type of music are you trying to play? Pandora? Lossless? Depending on what exactly you're trying to accomplish you'd go a specific route.

You will still always get better quality with a direct connection compared to BT.

Not entirely true but in 99% of cases yes. Android BT to AK lossless DAC/amp via AptX would outperform iPhone direct wire assuming good source content.

Astell&Kern? I had the new balanced 3200 Sony and its good, yet felt going 1tb ssd was better (yes have the HK system, modded of course). No one expects great quality from BT, sure CD quality if the soirce material is that but nothing of true hi-res audio for those who love music and want great sound. The next gen BT will do hi-res, yet we're probably a year or three out before it gets into enough devices.

Am kinda amazed people are using low quality mp3 that isnt even as good as decades old CD technology. Hopefully music lovers start realizing that hi-res audio is here and begin changing to the modern sound quality instead of low-fi lossy compressed mp3. Funny, even the inventors of mp3 are now 'disowning' the tech (stopped licensing it) last week as they know there is far better quality avaiable.

Yes on the AK. It's funny how many people listen to absolute garbage quality music. But Apple won't play nice w AptX and the path of least resistance for now at least is FiiO player but that's yet another device to deal with in car. S8 for example life is much easier and will play w AK AptX headphone amp.

I think for most folks the car music = easiest to use vs best sounding. I have varying levels of legit listening rooms at home VMPS RM30s in one, Gallo Reference in another, etc. but I'm in the small minority of people who care enough to throw money at these things. Car I have Bavsound stage 2 upgraded HK in my car, Bav stage 1 base stereo upgraded in wagon, and I run FiiO but wagon dad uses USB lossless (and crap in car DAC) just because it's easier. There's definitely a pain point for everyone on quality vs hassle (and expense).

As already stated..,you'll need to do some coding to get BT audio streaming.

I have a USB stick that stays connected in the center armrest - it's where the iDrive "profiles" for both keys are kept, and periodically get re-exported to. I put my music collection on that same stick so I can listen to it through the iDrive menu. I assigned a button to play my favorite playlist. No phone required - which is good, because I don't own or need a smartphone.

Ok so you're listening to crap source files so AptX has no benefit for you. And it won't work on iPhone anyway. Unless you upgrade to lossless either get a BT dongle or code.

There are a number of options, depending on how much you want to spend. Coding is free if you can do it yourself, or not free if you have someone do it. Or, you can buy a device (like MsquaredF30 already posted) that plugs into aux jack and supports BT music streaming.

Or, you can spend hundreds/thousands and upgrade your complete audio system.

There's a separate section for this stuff. You can learn more here:

Coding is your best option, ask if some ones willing to do it for you for a drink(or few) or take a look here....

same issues with a 2013 328i - bought used in 2016 - told by the 'geniuses' that bluetooth is spotty and best to hardwire - so i keep an iphone wire permanently plugged into my USB and play my 500 songs from my phone or pandora etc.

Buy yourself a vGate WiFi adapter from Amazon, the WiFi version NOT BT. Then download Bimmercode for iOS or Android and code enhanced BT and enable all codecs.

I've always been able to BT my music. I don't see EBT when i decode the VIN. It had 9 miles when I got it so I doubt it was coded in.

Is it standard on newer models?

Did your music use to play?

Something similar happened to me where my music stopped working all of a sudden using Bluetooth one day.

I just forgot my phone information on idrive and then connected it again. Afterwards everything started working fine.

Once your phone is paired up... I went into media (center arm console button) / external device/ click on my phone and get some Awesome sounding Rage against the Machine on there thru Pandora... it's all set-up that once I get in it ... its starts playing... when I get out Pandora goes into sleep mode until it detects the cars bluetooth again

thought this bluetooth option was standard...

Yes it can surely be done. I didn't had bluetooth media streaming on my 2012 f30. spent 2-3 hours watching youtube, reading few posts and coded myself. You will need a cable that you can order from ebay. If in Melbourne happy to lend you mine. its not hard - if you are little bit technical.
