Down pipe fitment help

Hi guys, I'm trying to install a ER down pipe on a n26 428i. It seems the upper end doesn't fits perfectly to the turbo and there is a little gap. Is it a problem? Can I just fasten the clamp to move it at a correct position? This is the position when the two screws are in their place.

I have tried as hard as I can but I can only push it to this far. There is still a gap on the side close to the engine, and the clamp is unable to tighten.

Hm. Assuming you checked to make sure gasket is properly seated?

You're going to want that to sit flush, no gap. The V Band clamp may help shore up the gap when you tighten it down… but Id want to be positive that the gasket is properly installed first.

I got new gasket from dealer today and it's still the same. Gap close to the engine is larger than other place.

Another (potentially) stupid question…. You dont have the other side hooked up do you? In my experience, its definitely necessary to have that side "free" so you can maneuver the down pipe to get to seat against turbo properly.

The fit is obviously very tight and needs to be just at the right angle to go on fully.

Its possible although ER is definitely on the better end of quality control. Still… if humans are involved, things can slip through QC.

I had a similar problem when installing my VRSF downpipe a few weeks ago. Never looked if there was a gap but my vband clamp does not close all the way. When I feel around the clamp it seems properly seated, and it doesn't sound like there is any exhaust leak. Is this going to be a problem?
