For anyone experiencing bad sound quality, unplug the aux cable in your armrest. Simply remove the plastic cover and disconnect the aux cable, all fixed now.

I have not gotten one of this due to the fear of bad sound quality. Do you have HK? Can some else also confirm this is a fix?

Is it possible to simply use the android system as a new monitor and have it boot directly to the car's head unit? I think I want to do NBT EVO retrofit, but I currently have a 6.5" screen.

Purchasing a 10.25" screen from another BMW is generally more expensive (700+ for touch on ebay) than one of these head units and I'm not even sure it'll fit correctly where I know this will fit on my F48 X1.

For those that use Avin units, or their apk solution/dongle for carplay: There was just an update to the dongle itself that added support for separation of volume control between media/navigation/microphone. It's in options, under "Additional Settings".

I don't know how it is on other units, but finally being able to lower or raise the navigation voice independently of the main volume was one of the last quirks I've been waiting for them to add/fix.

To summarize: This is regarding Avin units (but not necessarily just), and the app called AutoPlayBox which they use for their wireless carplay integration via their dongle.

Hello, sorry I tried my best but couldn't read all 100 pages of this post. So if this is already answered, I apologize in advance.

1. I just got the new Avin Android 10 screen for my F30. I have the CIC head unit and I'm hoping I have the 6 pin NBT LVDS plug, fingers crossed, but I haven't started the install yet. I'm guessing if I have the 4 pin CIC plug then I'll have to return this. Does anyone know if the 4 pin CIC plug will fit into the 6 pin plug of this unit?

2. I noticed on the harness that the 3.5 Audio out and Audio in on the wiring harness is plugged in together. Should they be plugged in together or do I need to unplug it? Of course that's depending on if I get sound or I need to run the aux cable under my arm rest.

3. What is the long flat thing with the double sided tape? Is that an LTE or 4G antenna?

4. My harness came with a small external speaker. What is that for? I've never seen any install videos where that little speaker is included. Could that be for the vehicle chimes and dings?

Thanks for the help. I wish these things came with instructions, or an owners manual at least.

Yes. Try reception in different places to find the perfect location for the 4G/LTE antenna.

Thanks for the replies Mirjam and Daxtor. I did have the 6 pin NBT plug. I got everything plugged in. Problem is, now the android side reboots every minute or so. I'll start a new thread since this one is over 130 pages long.

One issue is that I only have 1 UI option, the Avin_AV8, which I curiously selected when I was in the Factory Setting, and that changed the layout from the original tile view in the first pic, to the enlarged view in the second pic.

Any idea how to change it back to the original? I tried selecting the UI again, but to no avail.

I haven't seen the layout in the first pic at all (I have the Avin screen as well, but it is the Android 9 version and I bought it quite some time ago). Are there any options in the factory settings menu to change it back to the other layout?

If you have a Snapdragon 625 HU you can use the Full Feature factory_config file, for Android check 9 here and for Android 10 here.

Thanks, Gents. I initially only had one option for the UI, but reading through this thread and finally getting a response from AVIN, I was able to load the factory XML File and now have the option for the additional UIs. Changed back to the way that I wanted it.

Overall pretty pleased with the unit and sound quality. I'm no audiophile by any means, but it sounds pretty decent via AUX and Premium Sound.

Just a few minor gripes with the unit that I can live with.

So while installing my new headunit from avin, I noticed I didn't have the green and black optical cables. It seems like because of this I can't connect to the original idrive and don't have any sound.

You may need to use the AUX cable in this case. My headunit does have the optical cable so I don't need to use the AUX cable.
