Let me start off by saying I'm not an expert when it comes to coding at all, I mainly rely on BimmerCode and BimmerLink to do the job. My NBT Evo is retrofitted and I cannot really access the HU module with BimmerCode no matter what I try, and it's probably because the HU is retrofitted rather than stock. My only other option is Esys, and although I used it successfully in the past, things seem to have changed when it comes to tokens and stuff like that, rendering it a bit useless for me.



What are my options here if I want to code the Head Unit with Esys? Would I have to buy BimmerUtility or are there alternatives out there?

Take a look at bimmergeek’s protool.
It’s android only, but it’s far more powerful than BimmerCode and easier than esys.

I used to to VO code a 6WB cluster to my car and have been using it since.

Sent them a message. I'd rather avoid having to buy their adapter or cable because importing those from abroad would cost me way too much money in terms of international shipping, import fees, and customs. I wouldn't mind buying a software-only license and either using my own vgate BT adapter or enet cable. Thanks for this!

Protool is the way, my friend. It has every single capability of E-sys, save for flashing a DME. Totally worth the money, and their customer service, with the ability to code remotely, is like having the dealership at your service for free.

Thank you for this. I contacted them about buying a license but it seems as though I’d need to buy their own OBD adapter, I really wanted to use the Vgate one I have rather than having an adapter shipped internationally for a lot of money and time. They also told me I can probably use my ENET cable with an Android phone using an Ethernet adapter of some sort, so I’ll probably look into that.

I have the MgFlasher adapter that I tuned my car with and that’s compatible with Protool.

I’m pretty sure if you can connect to esys with your adapter you can connect to Protool.

For there to be free options would mean someone is willing to do the work to create the software to do it for free. That's not exactly a successful business model.

That was because TM got so p***ed off with people stealing his work and selling it as their own that he made the one-time free offer of 2.81 to undermine the scumbags.

TheNine90 sent them to me but I just noticed his account has been banned for some reason and the links he sent expired. I will see if I can find another link and send it but so far I haven’t.
