Oil service

Hi, tried searching around on Google but couldn't really find an answer.

People on this forum often say they change the oil every 7k or 10k etc.
I'm looking at doing this too but via a dealer as I don't have the time or the tools or the knowledge to do it on my 340.

However, looking at prices online for a local dealer, bmw Lloyd Colne, there seems to be two options:
1 - oil service @ 129
2 - oil service with microfilfer @ 216

My car had its oil service under the service pack something like 6000 miles ago. And a major service under the service pack something like 4000 miles ago.

So which oil service above do I need. Can someone explain the difference.

Many thanks.

I might have got the services I've had under the service pack mixed up. I might have had the oil service 4000 miles ago and the major service 6000 miles ago. Of the top of my head, not too sure.

Microfilter is for the cabin air, pretty sure that would have been done at a major service

Yes pretty sure this was done at the major service.

So for the oil change every 8k, the first option is ok

Just checked in the car. Slight blunder but my question still stands.
I had my major service at 38585 miles which included micro filter and oil service.
But the service at 39609 which I thought was the oil service was actually the brake fluid service.

However, I'm now on 42466 miles so in about 3000 miles, I'll get the oil changed.

If it's an interim service no need to change the micro filter. Oil + oil filter is all you need. The £129 price is highly unlikely to be honoured as I think BMW ran a promotion last winter but never updated the online platform service prices after it expired. Best price I managed for an interim oil service from a dealer for mine was approx £164.

Don't reset service indicator as that'll confuse it and bring forward things like next spark plug service which on the B58 is every other oil service. Personally I stick to the BMW service schedule but squeeze in an interim oil change in the middle of each scheduled oil change (so year 1 interim oil service, year 2 oil service, year 3 interim oil service + brake fluid, year 4 major service Inc plugs + vehicle check, year 5 interim oil service etc). I do approx 10k per year.

For the interim service why not take the car to an BMW independent supplying your own oil so you're only paying for labour? Will cut down on costs & like already has been said you are unlikely to get just the oil & filter changed for the price quoted online.
You are wise not tackling this job yourself though, even the dealer managed to fcuk this job up on mine with the oil filter being difficult to remove on the B58 I believe, there was a post not too long back on here with a forum member having the same problem trying to do it on his drive.

The car in built computer tracks the services very well and therefore basically if it say it need doing it more than likely correct. So
Oil, brakes, brake fluid are all monitored so for an Oil change you could simply go to Halfords and ask for the oil meeting the spec in your manual and a MANN branded oil filter. The Cabin air filter (microfilter) is a simple change too. I sure on my BMW need no tools as it a clip arrangement.

They will reset the computer and you have a receipt for the oil change, but not the service history with BMW of course. Oil change will cost like less the £100 verses around £300 BMW.

I don't believe the oil is monitored for condition at all. My car has had one official BMW service, and 2 interim oil services (now at 27k) and after both interim oil services, it didn't make a jot of difference to the 'next service due in' detail.

When I said it's monitor, it monitors the milage driven and fuel used rather than the condition of the oil.

The oil sensor does monitor oil condition, measures the dielectric conductivity.

When having interim oil changes, oil won't likely be degrading enough to have much influence on the CBS.

You have Forshaws Independent at BB9 8TU.

I have used them often for both my 1 and 3 series servicing.
