Hello!

My 10k km b48 engine has been making weird sounds the couple of last times when starting the engine, in around negative 7 degrees celsius.

Might it be Vanos related?

Does anyone know what it could be?

Hi!

Same with mine:
BMW F34 (gasoline turbo engine B48, 2017, 150 000 km)

1. Cold Start - Clicking / Clacking noise for 1-2 minutes (the same one
2. Warm up - Squeeking noises, proportional to revs, inconsistent, lasts about 5 mins on average
3. Warm engine, after 30 min drive, some kind of "Pigeon" noises when in Neutral / Parking (but the noise stops when putting into Drive)

There are not any new Engine fault codes in ECU:

System: Engine-DME Digital Motor Electronics
DTC: 130714: VANOS solenoid valve, exhaust: Position not reached
Status: Intermittent (last occurrence 500 km ago, but I have seen it a year ago, when the noises were not present, so seems unrelated to the noises)

Does anyone have experienced similar issues with B48 / B58 engines, and how did you resolve those?

Its the Vanos Actuator…there are 2 of them and same part#. One intake side and one exhaust side. Thats why you have the DTC:130714 issue as well as the synptoms you are describing.
