BMW 430i ticking noise after shutting down the car

Hi,

I bought a used 2016 340i about 3 days ago. I used the car the first 2 days and it was fine. I am in love with the car.

Today, I pulled into my garage as aways and then shut down the car. I notice a clicking noise. Turns out its from the engine. I made a video. Does anyone know what could be? is it a common issue?

Thanks for help
God bless

It's not normal, whatever it is.

How long does it go for after shutting the car down?

In my limited knowledge, the water pump stays on to cool the turbos after engine shut-off. I wonder whether there's an issue with the pump.

My 335 does it for a few minutes and my wife's X3-30i does it as well. Normal, best I can tell... I just assumed it was the engine cooling off.

Some odd noises are normal as the systems power down and components cool, but I've never heard anything the likes of what the OP recorded.

Let me check my 16 340 tomorrow and report back. I got it 2 months ago my self. Still learning about the car. These topics are awesome. Hope it's not an issue at all.

I just had my car at the dealer for this exact issue today. 2016 340i. They said its the valvetronic motor and I needed reprogramming to fix it. SIB 12 04 18 When I got home it still made the noise, just didn't for as long. I've had my car 6 months and I just started to notice this a few weeks ago. To me it feels like a part is wearing out and the software is a band aid to make it last a little longer. I dunno. maybe others have more info.
