Don't know where you read that. I barely see any, ever!
Money:

Ford sold 780 Mustangs in Germany last month compared to 752 Porsche 911s, according to a government report on auto sales provided by Ford.

COLOGNE, Germany, April 17, 2018 –
Ford sold 13,100 Mustangs in Europe in 2017, and 35,000 since introducing the iconic car to Europe in 2015. New Mustang and special edition Mustang BULLITT on sale later this year

From the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean, the Ford Mustang has topped the sports car sales charts in markets across Europe,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe, in a press release. “European customers continue to play a significant role in the global success of Mustang. The iconic sports car’s popularity with drivers of all ages and backgrounds shows no sign of waning – we sold 3,600 Mustangs in the region during the first three months of 2017.”

The Ford Mustang is now the world’s best selling sports car, according to a Ford analysis of IHS Markit data.

The Verge data did confirm that Ford’s analysis is correct. Other sports cars that IHS tracked include the BMW 4 Series, the Nissan 370z, the Porsche 911, and the Mazda MX-5.

😄 Trust Ford reports. Must be at least as true as Tesla‘s Model 3 manufacturing reports 😄 Comparing to 911, which is also a very unpopular car in Germany. It‘s sold more in the States than in-country. Considered a car for oldsters.

Statistics is so easy to twist. Love the headline of an article i read some time ago - „Electrical vehicles sales increased with 120% this quarter in comparison to the same period last year!“
Further down: „electrical vehicles market share increased from 0,3% to 0,6% cars of all newly registered vehicles in Germany, now selling 950 cars“ 😄

Please trust me at least on this one - American cars in Germany - cheap but not of interest and very rarely seen. Has always been like that. And even when you do see one, it usually has a military base license plate and an American flag bumper sticker 😆

But back on topic: I did not get whether your 2018 4-Series also had the non-Sport transmission look of the shifter already? Just curious.

Thanks, man. Still weighing my options for tuning, but I’m definitely going down that road sooner than later. Having my paint ceramic coated next week.

Lived in the UK, Gerrards Cross Bucks near in Iron Age Hill Fort, for 8 years made a living as MD of a company. Leased cars for the employees & German cars were on our approved list, wife drove an MB. Understand European pricing, VAT & road use taxing.

All this time I thought the 911 sold better here because its so much cheaper in the US then the same car in Germany.

For what its worth or not worth my daughter (911 Carrera 4S) other daughter (Cayenne) & a son in law (Boxster 718) are all in their 40's. Not exactly oldsters like me.

UK is not Europe and Europe is not UK. (Soon officially)
I was talking mainly about Germany and the rest of central Europe, where you would think those cars would be welcomed.
Cayenne is probably the most often seen on the streets Porsche together with Panamera.
The 911 is usually in the group of so called "penis extension" cars for elderly. Boxster is considered a female model.
Not my definitions, don't shoot the messenger Glad they are popular in the States

You sound awfully "American" for a German... Nothing like propagating stereotypes.

Cars are what they are, not what other people see them as. You can tell I'm not in Sales or Marketing.

BTW, I'm not telling you what my shift gate covers look like.

Really? Multinational company with German clients, we did business globally & I never would have guessed that.

BTW: For all your displeasure with some members cars I missed what you drive? Be nice to have that as a base for comparison since you are pretty much an unknown here.

Read the last 2 sentences of what you quoted (always a good practice) I actually don't share those definitions. Not all of them at least.

Could have researched in other threads, it's not a secret.
If it makes any difference - same as you, but a Gran Coupe + XDrive. But that is not a base for comparison, as I am not comparing - that would be extremely wrong. Nothing more pathetic than people who advocate what they have and deny everything deviating from that. Often seen here as well unfortunately...
P.s. Where have I expressed "displeasure with some members cars"? Please don't twist my words.
Beautiful car the one that gave birth to this thread. With one small exception (and another one which is not the owner's fault)

I couldn't care less what is the 'official' opinion of 911's in Germany...I'd love to have one.

I read your whole post.

Ending a comment in "no offense" or "but I'm not racist" doesn't magically erase the suggestions of the proceeding statement(s).

No suggestions. Just facts. Take them or leave them, neither will however change them.
No further comments on the topic.

I'm with you. Looks more finished with the leather boot. Don't give a rats arse as to whether it's absent on the DCT equipped M cars; it's nicer with the nappa leather boot. Dust concerns?....pffft!

It got ugly because the OP has an issue with criticism.

As Larry Flint said "Opinions are like assholes; everybody has one". No sense getting defensive.

It's a lovely car; no doubt.....but folks are entitled to opine as they feel.

Here's my $0.02 on the gear shifter boot thing:

Boots on gear shifters functioned as aesthetic covers to exposed internals of the shifting mechanism. With the DCT's unexposed internals, there is no functional use of the shifter boot. There is no "upscale" aspect to the shift boot that I know of. That being said, if you like the look of a shifter boot, that's your prerogative, but there is nothing wrong with not wanting it either. The DCT in my M3 looks just fine without a boot:

and it looks fine in the Pagani:

I don't have an issue with criticism, if it's warranted and valid. Insisting that there is only one correct way for a car to be equipped/optioned in order to be considered "premium" or "modern", isn't criticism, it's just silly dogmatic thinking. There are plenty of examples to the contrary of the POV that Skyhigh has been pushing, and ultimately it's very much a subjective choice left to each owner. It's really no different than the tired AT vs. MT debate. Different strokes for different folks, ultimately. Difference is, I wouldn't show up in someone's new car thread (or a mod thread) telling them where I think they went "wrong" with their build.

But that's me.

My wife recently ordered the same car as the OP with only a couple of options changed. In fact, as of a few days ago it had already left Bremerhaven. So, she should have it early September.

When selecting options, we ran across this thread by JamesWWIII. Glad we did because she is dead set on the Mineral Grey and likes the way the Orbit Grey wheels look on his car. Also, her present car has the same exact tires on the front that the Orbit Grey wheels have on the rear. This tire size and profile have worked great for her during the past 13 years and 90K miles, so it gives us a warm fuzzy about handling and comfort.

She got the Executive Package ($2,500, which includes the LC Leather Dakota) and Digital Instrument Cluster ($350), instead of James' Driving Assistance Package ($500) and separate LC Leather Dakota ($1,450). Other than that, the cars are the same.
