Don’t know what it’s called. I think the color is determined by the trim you have. Mine is body colored.

My F30 doesn't have one. What do you drive?

It's a fender or side panel. Sometimes called a Quarter Panel.

The 3 series does not have the vent.

Though aftermarket fenders are available for the 3 series to match the M3 Style.

And various others.

I debated retrofitting a vent in the wheel well on my F30 but ultimately decided against it.

Seemed like I would blow brake dust out the side vents onto the paint.

Interestingly enough, I know what you're talking about, but I haven't seen any actual brake dust residue on fender or door

They're on the 4 series, and on the 3 series GT models, the latter being cosmetic only.

It's only on F32/F33/F36 4 series models.

It's a dummy vent on LCI 4 series. From what I read, people complained about dirt and rocks getting stuck in it so they changed the part.

You can swap it out for one with an actual cutout, but the inner ricer in me still likes it as a design piece so no plans to change it and deal with the dirt. Plus it's probably even less functional without a cutout in the fender liner for it.

I was pretty happy with how mine came out

After experimenting with Carbon Fiber, Matte Black, Gloss Black and BSM, I had the vent and wing both painted BSM to match the car's paint.

I've seen race cars emit a puff of brake dust when diving into a corner, but I don't know if a road car would ever brake with such force to cause the effect...even on a track.

They actually plugged it on the LCI? Interesting. I'm surprised they would change the stamping of the fendors for something that minor while continuing to make provisions to attach a piece of trim.

On my pre-LCI M-Sport F32 there is a hole in the front wheel liner on both sides and the vent we're discussing in the back. I don't think there is a lot of air flow going across the brakes, but at least it's something.

From what has been reported here it's not on the F30 unless (cosmetically?) retrofitted.

Yeah I was making the joke that I don't particularly like it and that's one of the things that pushed me to get the f30

In BMW forums we call it the bimmerang

I like the vents in the M3/M4 but it looks a bit contrived in the regular 3/4 series, IMHO.

It would put brake dust up the side of the car, but tbh, the partials would be so small youd only notice the "extra" dust when cleaning using an Iron Out product

You must have a late model F32 then, as mine are functional not cosmetic.

I believe this was changed in the LCI.
