Well that ended up being way easier than I thought. Took left Chicago Noon on Wednesday, picked u that car at 5:30pm, reached the border around 9pm, Took 30mins to complete paperwork and on we went.

Stayed the night in Port Huron before getting back to Chicago just after Noon.

I thought I was having a great day when I was able to enable TPMS system today (was not a option original on the car but only needed software coding to make it operational.)

But got an even better surprise. The car has the MPPSK option installed! I had no idea that the car had that installed. Which may seem strange but it was not mention in the dealer paperwork, at we never really looked at the car when we picked it up. We just wanted to get going! It makes our good deal that little bit better!

So you mean the TPMS sensors were installed on the tires but never turned on. That is certainly strange.

Canadian BMWs do not use TPMS sensors.

TPMS is a requirement for cars in the US but not for Canada, so they do not install TPMS sensors in the RIM's (saves them money) or enable the option.

I bought Winter setup with TPMS, with the hope that the research was correct and the TPMS hardware was installed in the car, and it just needed enabled.

You really need to check with BMWNA about warranty and other items....not just take the word of a Dealer.

BTW, There would also be custom fees I believe. And obtaining a title in USA is complicated as well.

I believe the speedo *might* be permanently set to km iirc from past threads.

Full Disclosure. I haven’t done it, but full disclosure, reading several threads on forum I would get everything in writing from BMWNA prior to doing anything.

Also find out exactly the other gotchas....and be prepared for headaches down the road.

Possible list off top of my head

1) Hardcode Metric Default
2) Unable to subscribe to SiriusXM in USA as Canadian Car
3) Connected Drive on Canadian Wireless Provider (not ATT)

and thats just the surface.
So thanks IK6SPPED for all the doom and gloom, but everything seems fine so far.

Certainly with an older car I could see issues but with the newer cars and Digital cluster everything is just fine.

No issues with Metric values - all just iDrive changes.
SiriusXM is working just fine
Connected drive is working as well, as far as I can see. Not really used much but the weather is up to date, connected drive app works as well.

BMW confirmed the Warranty updated to US version this week.

Local DMV was no harder than any other title I've applied for and The border crossing in person (Minus first failed attempt), was really pretty easy.

Certainly a lot of moving parts to the whole import process but in the end I think I got a really good deal on a really nice car.
